Sticks, what the problem is, is that this particular FM resurrects threads about subjects such as who is up for eviction this week (these threads are usually about two/three months old), and are therefore now void, and replies to them, usually just with "lolz" whatever that means. I went onto the BB6 forum yesterday thinking that there was a load of new topics on there, and in fact they were all old ones. Another thread that was resurrected was latest odds (to win BB6). Clearly, such threads are well out of date now! And I can't see the point in dragging up an old thread from months ago, just to write "lolz."

Ruth 05-09-2005 04:09 PM

I agree that there is no problem in resurrecting an old thread if, as you say, you have something new to add, or an update, but I don't think "lolz" is useful to anybody!

Sorry for double posting!

If you looked around, you'd see that some of the threads that have been resurrected have been two or three years old. As far as the BB6 forum is concerned, most are two or three months old. Not only does this bring back topics that we all knew the answers to several months ago now, it also dredges up the related squabbles and arguments, too. Instead of asking daft questions, why not just look at the forum in question for yourself?

The worst bit is the way this FM has completely ignored polite requests to bloody well stop it!

cc100 05-09-2005 07:52 PM

he/she/it just picks out random threads and simply puts 'lolz' , whatever that means.

its ok to pick up on old threads if you have something to add.

Siouxsie 05-09-2005 08:24 PM

why cant we just let it lie now and forget it in fact just lock this thread altogether cos it is totally annoying now mad mad mad

sol 06-09-2005 11:36 AM

whos betting that orlaith-rules will just reply to this saying
lolz
?

Dan_ 06-09-2005 03:30 PM

Nah this thread is too new and he/she proably won't read it.

Because the last time we did that, it was clearly no deterrent whatsoever.

Yeah, three years from now this thread will spring back to life, with the expression...
'lolz!'

Kore 06-09-2005 05:16 PM

i think threads that have been inactive for 2 months+ should be deleted myself.

Fangz 06-09-2005 05:17 PM

Exactly. I've seen other forums do that, and it seems to work for them!

Sticks 06-09-2005 05:22 PM

I resurected this thread from 2001 and immediately current members started contributing.

So what is the issue with bringing back old threads.

I have done it my self with other threads, including the Boris Bar thread :nono:

Kore 06-09-2005 05:24 PM

sticks, obviously threads like 'boris bar' can be re-opened again and again. but threads like 'omg look what kemal is wearing' from day 1 on BB6, is totally inappropriate.

The issue is that in your case you have resurrected the thread, and added something to it. What is the point in resurrecting a thread from months or years ago, and simply typing "lolz?" If anybody can give me a valid answer to this question, then I'll stop being so annoyed.

Seriously, today I saw a thread that the last contribution to was in July 2005, about Orlaith and Kinga arguing in the secret garden. Two months later - in the last couple of days - Orlaith_Rules added a post which simply said "lol." What's the point? Also, if I was a new person joining the forum, it would really put me off, because I would assume that old threads just keep getting dragged on and on.

cc100 06-09-2005 07:11 PM

If you have something worthwhile to add then you can post anywhere.

I think you're missing the issue, threads like the Boris Bar and what do you want for christmas are fine because they have relevance and also the Boris Bar thread is a continuing one that's not going to go out of date.

What new can be said about such threads from BB6 as What's on the roof when we found out about 2 months ago?! What is worthwile about adding lolz to that thread?

It's tedious and annoying and perhaps if you ventured into those parts of the forum on a regular basis you might see why it's an issue.

skelo4eva 06-09-2005 07:34 PM

I havnt got a problem with it to be honest

Unless they're offensive, threads should never be deleted. It's incredibly insulting to delete content that members have put time and effort into.

.

Indeed, and that's quite probably the most tedious thread I've ever had the misfortune of reading in my life. Congratulations.

time and effort for a 2 liner?

CharlotteSometimes 06-09-2005 10:29 PM

Is every post that's ever been made on the entire forum two lines long?

Kore 06-09-2005 10:30 PM

has every post on this forum taken time and effort?

Do you know what?A lot of them are. It's alright if it's suitable like but when you see people just coming along with their constant one liners or what-not.

Like people just post a smilie...or lol.I really don't get the point of it. And like there's stuff posted that could just be u2u'd...baffles me,really does.

Kore 06-09-2005 10:33 PM

spot on lance.

most posts on this forum are just spam

so deleting pointless dead threads shouldnt be a problem. (unless they are ones like boris bar)
