I just wondered cos sometimes you see people with loads of things stuck on their back window and you'd wonder how the hell they see out of there at all!

I guess. Pretty pathetic really though.

When I lived over gateshead, a group of football hooligans 'the gremlins' smashed the bar downstairs up for no reason except that newcastle had lost. They did it to a few other bars too....

Grown men (and strangely a couple of women) acting like total animals over football.

When you think about it - I guess flags fluttering about in the wind on cars could be a distraction for other motorists as well - I can see a potential safety issue!

The police said nothing about safety when telling him off. Also, the police officers were not English.

serensilver 03-06-2010 04:32 PM

pathetic rules these days! if somethings dont change they'll start not being able to wear football tops in the uk!! if they told him it was for other roads users safety then fair enough!

:wavey:

Makes a little more sense now...

And if it WAS for safety reasons, surely they would have said that, to avoid confusion :/

Smithy 03-06-2010 04:50 PM

Did they give a reason as to why it had to be taken down?

Lewis. 03-06-2010 04:53 PM

That's slightly annoying. Takes the mick really.

Flying an England flag is considered provocative and racist, as is flying the union flag. This is because they are used by far right groups, and their use, can be seen as intimidating to people of other ethnic groups.

It is best not to display the England flag at all as doing so will bring trouble from the police and / or the local council.

Patrick 03-06-2010 08:36 PM

Thats the way it is here, put one Ireland flag up beside your house when Ireland are playing and you've got a riot on your hands.

Put one Ireland flag on the back of your car, park it, go into tescos and out again and the Car is burnt.

People get so ****ing offended over a colour of a flag honestly.

I was asked to go do a peice of art for our school display thing last month, did this big peice of paterns and that and ONE TINY BIT in the corner had Green, White and Orange and what did they do?

They said they couldn't use that in the school, because of 3 colours and the school isn't even Protestant or anything ffs.

Idiots, Its so unfair what happened to your dad.

Nonsense. If you can't fly your own flag in your own country then there's something VERY wrong. And there is no laws saying such either.

You seem to want to pander to the far right and the ethnic sensitivities..**** that! Normal citizens need to reclaim the flag and not allow it to be hijacked. This is the best time to do it.

It's our flag and it's gonna fly everywhere this summer dammit.

My cousin who lives in Surrey has had numerous complaints for flying her St Andrews cross flag on HER flagpole in HER garden. To put 2 fingers up, she changed it to Stars n Stripes on Monday, and I've suggested she should change that to an Algerian one then a Slovenian one in due course.

Too much Orwellian blood in your veins, Sticks.

He's the only one of my Dads best friends that supports England as all his other best mates are Italian and support them.

Well anyways earlier on, the POLICE stopped him and told him to take the English flag off, and I couldnt believe it!!

Its bad enough to go up to someone and tell them to take off another flag. eg. As we always put an Italian one up, and tell us to take it off. That is RACIST. Yes it is.

Never mind the actual people in the country. This has shocked me. Anybody should have the freedom to support whoever they want in whatever country. We have never had issues ove rthis in the past when we seen Spanish, German, Argentian, Italian etc... flags up in previous years.

****ing ridiculous. And they say things are "racist" real excuse for that right now. They just want to stir trouble up.

I don't understand why it matters if you put a flag up. I thought it was rumours people were asked to take their flags down. The house opposite us has an italian flag up at their window all year round and has done for years i remember being little and seeing that flag at their window, its never offended anyone

Because in the UK the Italian flag has not been adopted as a symbol for the far right racist groups. The England flag has, and the union flag to some extent as well. With this in mind, displaying these flags is seen by some as being intimidating and hostile and therefore to be discouraged.
