They're guilty pleasures for me, I read the books out of sheer boredom and I find the films decent but ultimately disposable films, like Shaun said. They're good for a bit of brain off entertainment. They're badly written and trashy but I enjoyed them for their ironic value.

MrGaryy 05-06-2010 05:54 PM

I respectfully disagree entirely.

Jords 05-06-2010 05:56 PM

I thought this was about Emily..

I havnt seen any of them, nor read the books.

It’s a perfect storm of co-mingling fan-worship, too. You’ve got the teenage girl demographic, infatuated with this…fucking vapid, vacant pasty-faced asshole, with that face you just want to ram into a men’s room doorknob until his teeth litter the ground like bloody chiclets. That godawful brooding intensity, that mysterious “I’m the biggest, sexiest mistake you’d ever make, ladies, because I’m fucking dangerous” scowl that makes all the women drool.

Tis' an entire franchise based around a pale, dreary bore who always drones on about his own existential angst, his eternal torment, his alienation from human society, and the constant struggle to contain the beast of his infinite rage forever crawling in his skin, lest it surface and harm those he loves.

I hate it I hate it I fucking hate it.

Yep, pretty much how I view it apart from the fact that you don't have to smash him against a doorknob because he and the plot are completely toothless to begin with. Vacuous rubbish that makes a mockery of the vampire myth.

I'd like to add 30 Days of Night to you list :)

Yeah it's a pretty good vampire film, I love how it wasn't the clichéd portrayal of "vampires."

GypsyGoth 06-06-2010 01:50 AM

I love Twilight movies and I love other vampire films

Twilight 06-06-2010 01:57 AM

I've watched the movie, it was good but its overrated,a lot. And the book is wayy better.

I thought this was a campaign against you:joker:

Braden 06-06-2010 10:34 AM

I think the films are very over-rated.

Totally ruined vampires.

Saw the trailer for eclipse when I was in the cinema last week and actually laughed out loud at it.
What a waste...

Yes I know it was books first, the author was sh** also.
Used the same adjectives over and over....
OH SPARKLY VAMPIRE!
No, just no!

Anyway, is there all ready some sort of anti Twilight club going on?
Shall we start one?

I'm in.

Zippy 06-06-2010 11:17 AM

Near dark is the best vampire movie ever.

Twilight is for schoolgirls.

edit; and Vicky! :p

Callum 06-06-2010 11:23 AM

The books are much better than the films but all in all Harry Potter is ultimately superior than Twilight.

MassiveTruck 08-06-2010 08:26 PM

I like them.

The atmosphere in the films are brilliant. The cinemetography is ghost like and all the ambience from the characters to the set are all sullen and noirish.

I think some of the dialogue is pretty dire at times but generally they are films that aren't over hollywoodised.

I know what will happen in the later films and I am disappointed about that but I think the overall premise and intentions are a good one, sealing up the saga nicely.

So yeah, love 'em. Better than the sex obsessed obviousness we get from Hollywood these days. Not that I dislike that but a change and a difference is always good.

Exactly. It's all very different and they don't try to imitate life either. They create a distinction between all these different beings and keep it like that.

Buffy tried to humanise vampires and all these other shows did too. Even Anne Rice but I think with True Blood and Twilight we get vampires being vampires.

Ramsay 08-06-2010 08:32 PM

Darren Shan > Twilight
