The only thing that's pretentious is suggesting someone change their name and culture because it looks bizarre and alien to your narrow mind.

Nemo123 24-06-2010 04:09 PM

How's Penelope pronounced? Or Worcestershire? Or colonel?

You need to pay attention to what I'm actually saying.

I get what you're driving at but don't forget the Cholmondley-Warners!!:elephant:

I'm all for preserving the Celtic language, especially in Cornwall!! But whatever way she pronounces her name, I hope she goes soon. Doubt if she will though, she's one of the 'never nominated' crew who will make it to the last 6 without that much support. Da weles skon!

Speedster 24-06-2010 04:21 PM

I'm sorry, you're attacking someone based on the name her -parents- gave her?. Pathetic reason to have a go at a house mate, for all you know the name Caoimhe may have real family significance like being the name of a well loved and respected relative, or maybe she's descended from a very important person like a scientist, or explorer or maybe a human rights campaighner.

As for the tree of temptation-screw it. You're missing the point anyway, the tree is there to make fun of people any way it/they (BB) can and to make them uncomfortable by winding them up. It wasn't picking on Caoimhe because of her name, it was picking on her because it was simply her turn to -get picked on- and the only way they (BB) could think of at the time was by teasing her about her name.

I extended the benefit of the doubt, but now I do believe there is an element of Trolling here!

BB_Eye 24-06-2010 04:44 PM

It's her real name. Why should she change the spelling just because you're illiterate and can't unduhstand enything that issunt spelt fonetikly?

I would say Caiomhe may be pretentious, her name most definately isnt.

Before suggesting changing her name to the way it is said perhaps he should make All English people ensure their names are pronounced as they spell them eg Cholmondely to Chumley etc.

The list of place names and words in general use that the same rule could be applied too is almost endless.
