he isn't on benefits

He would have been discharged medically from the Forces, due to his injuries, in those days they didnt keep people in to do admin jobs. Just mag to grid to stop other personnel from seeing what could happen to them.

He will be in receipt of a full medical pension, this is a lot more than a normal pension, it takes into account that he could have continued serving for a full career, it would be about the same rate as a serving soldier at the same rank and grade he was at the time of his discharge.

Why is the OP singling out Steve? Most of the other housemates were unemployed prio to entry into the house, so surely the question should be about all their benefits too.

But yes if he wins, the prize money would be classed as savings/earnings and it would be taken into account when assessing most state benefits like Child Tax credit, Working Tax, Income Support, Jobseekers etc.

I don't think that winnings from competitions / shows etc. affects benefits, but I could be wrong.

This subject has been done to death and you resurrected this thread after almost a week, to tell us this? Thanks for sharing.

I read that his military pension is not a lot and with a litter of eight kids I don't doubt he get's benefits. Therefore winning the 100k might affect those payments.

I'm not particularly fascinated by Steve's financial situation, but the difference between me and Steve is - he is in the public eye and I am not.

Ping!!

Firstly, I couldn't give a monkey's what you get. You're the one who called someone "nosey parker" for asking.

Secondly, what you know about the military and military pensions I could obviously write on the head of a pin. What's more, maybe his wife works, ever thought of that? Incidentally, it's HIGHLY derogatory to refer to someone's family as a "litter".

Lastly, Because Steve is in the BB house and has no legs, it seems to be a source of endless fascination for the shallow to dig into his financial affairs. You are not the DSS. Entry into the BB house is not means-tested.

It's not the DSS - it's the DWP. You're out of touch.

His wife doesn't work.

I have an interest in how my tax pounds are spent. And it is of interest to see someone sitting it out on national TV hoping to get a prize of £10k for doing bugger-all.

Families with unemployed/unemployable parents an above-average number of children are given a huge amount of benefits. I very much doubt Steve and his family turn these down out of the goodness of their hearts.

Not about being out of touch - unless people are unemployed they are not very likely to know that!

He gets an army pension and does a lot of charitable work for injured soldeirs (look on his profile on C4 website). He is as deserving and entitled as any of the hms!

JJ doesn't work - and he is young, fit and healthy - what is his excuse. Just because his father died and left him a lot of money - doesn't mean the lazy sod shouldn't work!

You have some very strange ideas - and an aversion it seems to injured soldiers!

Does anyone know if HMs still get paid for appearing on the show?

I know in BB1 they got paid a certain amount each week for the hours they'd miss from work, similar to how jury service works
