A kettle used to just be a big pot to boil water and/or cook food, not an electric kettle >.<

No when people say Bob's your uncle they mean there you go/that's it done, sort of thing eg. you turn the key, start the engine and bobs your uncle!

"How do you do?"

What do we want to know about you, doing what?

Lee. 28-08-2010 09:32 AM

I don't know if this is a Scottish thing or not but I find it funny when in company and somebody is leaving when somebody says "is that you?"
I say it at work all the time and have no idea why... When a customer has finished and is about to leave I'll say "ok? is that you?"
Is this a Scottish thing or have others heard this?

Stacey. 28-08-2010 10:31 AM

'How be you?'

I don't understand like the way it's worded, I always have to think about what it means.

I have never heard it or at least I never aware of hearing it using it with those occasions. It is interesting.
Of course I would use it like somebody at the door or may be on the phone?

Stacey's "How be you?" I have never heard of either!
