No, it's not ..... it's just a figure - the fact is that BB has been losing the over 16 audience hand over fist since BB6 finished, leaving a much smaller under 16 audience as its preferred demographic - similarly, voting figures are probably only 10% of what they used to be ..... regardless of changes in technology and competition, the truth is that fewer adults now bother to watch a pre-teen orientated series .....

BB6 - 4.22
BB7 - 4.17
BB8 - 3.36
BB9 - 3.35

Yeah, says it all right there ..... ;)

If last night had been a "normal" Sunday and not the penultimate night of the series, viewing figures may have dropped below 2m ..... :spin:

How many watched on Friday. Let's be honest 12.7m watched Xfactor. BB11 is a small improvement on last year, but nowhere near as as good as BB1/2/3/5/6/7.

Wish people would stop comparing it to other tv shows.

Viewing figures are up haf a million on last years which shows there is still interest in it.

Thats the point im trying to make that BB is still doing well and still is a fav for reailty fans

Currently, the series average is 2.8m, almost the same as BB10's 2.5m - BB9 averaged 3.6m !!!!!

So better than 10, but worse than ever other series to date .....

BB8 was 3.9, BB7 was 4.7, BB6 was 4.6, BB5 was 5.1, (even) BB4 was 4.6 while BB3 holds the record at 5.8 (double BB11) ..... :D

I never understand when people are thrilled that the viewing figures are half of what they used to be....

Snukey 23-08-2010 06:33 PM

The series average at the moment as it stands is 2.8million but this last week we have had some higher ratings which by the end will be 2.9million

You say almost half a million, I say just over a quarter of a million - the fact is that the number of viewers has halved since BB3, voters are down by 90% and the preferred demographic has only limited purchasing power - hence the sponsorship by Freederm .....

What little life is left in BB (and there's precious little of the life that it was born with) will now be best served on the periphery of the TV broadcasting spectrum .....

Snukey 23-08-2010 06:44 PM

Stop being so silly, the point is that there is around 3million people still watching it and that is alot of people.

Why have 2m stopped watching it and why is PEJ abandoning it and C4 dumping it ?

:conf:

Exactly

Beastie 23-08-2010 06:58 PM

There could still be 4 million people watching.. if they didn't cock up last year's series and got rid of the 24 7 live feed......

Nothing to do with ratings.

Its to do with all the controvercy. Channell 4 are ****ting their pants constantly over Ofcom since the BB race row hence the reason bb is very pc now.

I made it to the final 8 for "The gap year" auditions which is an Endemol production and had a proper chat with a few people who had worked on BB in the past and they even said it wasnt down to ratings. Jonny nuts who appears on bb sometimes said the contract was up in 2010 anyway

It did not get cancelled because of ratings lol.

The contract was up in 2010 anyway.

Show me a statement from Channell 4 where it states the show was cancelled because of ratings

Beastie 23-08-2010 07:10 PM

The ratings are still good.. but they would be better if they didn't drop 24 7 live feed last year.

Anyway it will be back!! don't worry :)

Surely, if viewing figures were in the 5m range, with sponsors queuing up to part with millions of pounds, advertisers willing to pay £1k/sec and voters numbering in the millions (as in BB5), C4 would NOT be cancelling BB .....

The cost :

Kevin Lygo, Channel 4’s director of television, used the channel’s autumn season launch to announce that he had decided not to renew a £60 million-a-year deal with Endemol, the programme’s production company, when it expires next year.

Amid an ongoing debate over the future of public service broadcasting, and renewed appeals by Channel 4 for help to fill a predicted £150 million funding gap, the move to dump Big Brother is being seen by many as a convenient political move to bolster the broadcaster’s public image.

That doesnt say anything from Channell 4 about the ratings being the cause of them not re-newing the contract
