I think what really upsets me is the knowledge that, as I type this, there are probably thousands upons thousands of children like this behind closed doors who are at the mercy of scummy useless parents, being subjected to random acts of neglect and cruelty which we never hear about.

I know that little James was a relative of yours and I can still remember how I sobbed when I heard about what had happened to him. At the time my youngest son was the same age and my heart went out to Denise Bulger.

I can laugh about a lot of things, but child cruelty and neglect? NEVER.

Lee. 04-10-2010 06:50 PM

FFS!! That's horrible! I have a 3 year old boy and cannot stand even the idea of him being scared or upset like that! It's a mothers insticnt to love and protect, not terrorise!

And for those who think it was probably just "a bit of fun", having fun with a 2 year old involves silly games, toys, books, cartoons, playparks, swimming pools etc, NOT gaffa tape!

Those first few years are childrens formatitive years for gods sake! Why would any parent want to scare and upset a child for their own amusement? It is beyond me! They don't deserve something as precious as a child!

I have friends who are currently paying £6k a time for IVF.. they are absolutely desperate for a child! It's so annoying that there are people out there who are lucky enought to be able to have children and do nothing but abuse/neglect the child!

Forced sterilisation? What a wonderful idea, Hitler would agree with you.

Well thats wrong. Torturing a child/person/animal is downright evil but sterilising someone isn't exactly the nicest way to go about punishing them is it? Those are strong words..

I think the whole 'lock 'em in prison and throw away the key' is more effective and ethical.

So people who have a dark sense of humour now torture animals?

*****INGLOL, that is a contender for one of the most laughable things I have read anywhere ever.

Of course it is...but that doesn't mean people aren't allowed to make some dark-humoured jokes.

'Offence'? LOL, it didn't offend me in the slightest - because I know it's not true. So because I have a dark sense of humour, I am now wired differently? Biggest load of bollocks I have ever heard. The James Bulger story sickened me, as did the Fritzl one. Looking at the pictures of this makes me upset as well...but I can take a joke. A joke is a joke...meaning they're not serious...and are to be laughed at. It doesn't mean you're 'wired differently' at all. Utterly ridiculous statement.

Lee. 04-10-2010 07:02 PM

I have an extremely dark sense of humour and manage to see humour in most things, but also think that there are subjects and situations that it is very difficult to make a joke of.. child abuse/neglect is one of them.

I went to see Frankie Boyle recently, who I have to say was ****ing hysterical, but unfortunately he tried to make a few jokes about Baby P; you could actually feel the audience recoil! SOme things just should not be laughed at!!

I can and have managed to find some humour even in the direst circumstances, as a kind of anchor of sanity, but there are some things I can honestly say I could never find humour in, and the thought that someone could actually make jokes about the tragic and horrific life of Baby P is beyond disgusting. Frankie Boyle often tries too hard to shock and just comes across as desperate and insensitive.

Yeah, that's exactly what I thought on seeing him live. He was trying to shock a bit TOO much. He can be funny without going OTT, so I don't know why he bothers. He definitely began to lose the audience afew times when I saw him..

Not really. A joke is a joke. A joke. It's that simple, really. If anyone takes a joke seriously [whether it's a knock knock joke or a Fritzl joke] then there's a problem. Because a joke is not meant to be serious, and I seriously cannot stand this assumption that because I laugh or poke fun at something that is 'serious', I am condemning the act that I'm laughing at. I mean...it's...ludicrous. Similar to what kazanne said in this thread. So because I have a dark sense of humour I torture animals? One of the most laughable things I have ever heard in my life.

I like dark humour, but I also have to be surprised or stimulated by a joke, and with regard to many of these "funny" jokes that tread dangerously between what's allowed and not allowed, they just don't contain any real wit, you know?

I mean, one of my fav short jokes is... "how do you stop a dog riding your leg?" "Pick him up and suck him off". It's foul, it's nasty and horrid, but it makes me laugh cuz it's so absurd and surprises me.

Don't know where I'm going with this really, but yeah, alot of these sick jokes are tired and dull really.

But I don't see anyone cracking one liners about this little boy taped to the wall.. I agree a joke is just a joke. But it is one thing laughing at a joke made about something serious to actually laughing a picture of a baby's distress and fear.. You know what I mean?

I mean I chuckled at a few jokes following the horrific boxing day Tsunami.. I didn't however sit and laugh my socks off at as I watched thousands of people being swept to their death.. there is a difference!

Where has anyone in this thread or anywhere else said they were laughing at the pictures? I certainly wasn't. Never would. As I said earlier in the thread, I laugh at jokes made about the incidents, not the incidents themselves.

YOU always have an excuse for your weird opinions, always trying to back out ,OF COURSE you find it funny, the incident happened, you "laugh at the jokes made about it" don't try and kid people you are a loving caring person, there is NOTHING funny about any aspect of a kids distress however you try to dress it up,but as long as you have a laugh it's ok isn't it?

OK, fair enough.. I syill find it difficult to see any humour in doing this to a defenceless child. It would maybe be funny (well, to some) to see this happen on a stag do or in college or summat, but not to a little boy! He won't see the funny side of it afterwards. He'll just be confused and frightened as to why his mammy was doing this and scaring him.. Nah, not funny at all.

LOL @ 'excuse'. It's called a point. A justifiable point. Something which a lot of your 'opinions' lack.

Oh right, so you know me personally now, do you? What a ****ing joke. So, so clueless. Because I have a dark sense of humour I'm not a loving and caring person, and like to tortue animals? Have you even read back the things you are typing here? Listened to the things that are coming out of your mouth? It's...cringeworthy. I cannot believe what I'm reading. Just clueless and laughable stuff. Just someone who can't accept that people have different senses of humour, it seems. Lighten up.

Did I say there was? What is funny though is the jokes [let me just drum that word into your head once more - JOKES] made about it. Not the incident that happened, the jokes. Do you get it now? Or do I need to say it again? As I have already said, I felt saddened when I looked at the pictures on the link in the OP...but the comments people have made are funny. There's a difference. Learn it.
