But I imagine all that's irrelevant when you're...erm...watching the X Factor for all of your musical knowledge.

It's irrelevant because I do not listen to music 24/7 and my tastes are pretty varied,I doubt you have heard of some of the music i like,you know nothing about my knowledge of music,so don't presume you do.

It is relevant when you claim that "they can't be that special" and that "lots of people have never heard of him/them" because their huge success is contradictory to your claim seeing how widely they are commended and celebrated. You are the one making presumptions stating that they cant be that special just because you have never heard of them

Yes, some people havent but that doesnt mean "they cant be that special", they have had a lot of success therefore the overwhelming consensus is that they are a very good band, and your comment came across as pretty ignorant if I'm honest.
