Of course, just like every other argument you never start.

In your opinion.

Excessive use of Vibrato and vocal gymnastics do not equal emotion, they're just fireworks to distract you from the fact she's colder then a russian winter.

Rebecca Ferguson is not far off:D.

Eva did the best version, I also liked Connie Talbot's on BGT:blush:.

I enjoy Israel's version, and I like Ted's band from Scrubs' performance of that version, sounds so good as a four-part harmony!

Eva Cassidy.

Josy 13-03-2011 01:14 PM

Only on TiBB could there be an argument about Somewhere Over the Rainbow :joker:

I prefer Eva Cassidy.

I don't really like the song but for me the best version I have heard was Shayne Wards from the X Factor.

It's a song that's, just in my opinion, been done too many times now though.

No matter who sing this song - I loathe it. It's one that I should mark down on the "songs that make you want to smash your head against a wall". It completely nauseates me. (sorry SOTR lovers!)

Shaun 13-03-2011 04:22 PM

I used to like the Eva version but it's so...in your face with how supposedly sad it is. Israel's owns.

Zippy 13-03-2011 04:53 PM

Both Israel and Eva died very young before their versions gained global success. I think that gives their versions added power and poignancy...and sadness. But Judy deserves special praise for making it so iconic in the first place and setting the standard.

All 3 versions are of their time but right now its Israels version that deserves to shine and is a worthy testament and belated tribute to his talent that wasn't properly recognised when he was alive.

So Israel then! :)

Another vote for Leona! :wavey:

I agree

Zippy 13-03-2011 07:13 PM

I don't think emotion is Leona's strength. Technical ability yes.

Harry! 13-03-2011 07:17 PM

My fave version

Kerry 13-03-2011 07:19 PM

Never in my days did I think I'd see an argument in a thread about such a subject - not even on TiBB

Still, made me giggle :joker:

Z 13-03-2011 10:33 PM

I think I prefer Israel's version because the way Eva sings it, as Shaun said, is so in your face with how depressingly sad it is, and it's just a bit too much, but his version puts a positive twist on it and makes it more listenable. Strange...

Niamh. 14-03-2011 09:44 AM

Israels version was played on the radio last night actually, hadn't heard it in ages and was thinking I loved it so his without a doubt
