I'm not going to lie, I am nosy and curious by nature. But the ban list holds no puropse anymore now that we have the appeals section.

It was in a weird jokey way I think, like because he called you Scott lol

No it defeats the purpose.

Niall 28-06-2011 06:32 PM

I want the ban list back. It would save other members having to bother mods about why others are banned in the first place imo. :|

MB. 28-06-2011 06:33 PM

Scott voted in the mod section :p

Stu 28-06-2011 07:57 PM

What on earth has the ban list got to do with the appeals section? They serve two entirely different functions.

To be honest despite being apathetic to forum drama myself and not really getting the whole obsession over who is banned and why I do think using this thread would make things a lot easier. If everyone could view who is banned, why they are banned and for how long they are banned you wouldn't get them festering in other threads asking these same questions prompting others to say 'it's none of your business'.

Also ... that Jeff Bridges .gif is glorious.

Might just be me being Mr Thicky here but how does the appeals section, which only the relevant individual members and staff can see, negate the desire for a banned list which would also help reduce the amount of posts asking why is **** banned and for how long?

I was more on about the fact with the banned member seeing the list and the appeals section so we don't need it.

In theory.

But nah, it doesnt when put in practice unfortunately. Just makes people ask different questions too. For example...XXX has been banned for a week : insulting PMs. You then get 'oh well the PM couldnt be that bad' 'who did they PM' 'stupid bitch probably deserved it' etc etc

Yes because it details the reasons why a member got banned:).

MTVN 29-06-2011 12:57 AM

It definitely needs to be brought back, the members should have a right to know when someone else has been banned, and for what reason & for how long. It's pretty unfair to say that we have no right to know any of this stuff considering that banning a member does have an effect on the forum and as the banning of Shaun shows it can be a significant one. It's more courtesy than anything, as it is creates a bit of a rift between members & mods imo where apparently it's none of our business to know why a Mod might suddenly have thought that someone who may be regular poster now requires a ban

InOne 29-06-2011 12:58 AM

I demand to know why and how long people are banned for no particualr reason at all.

mycarImissu 01-07-2011 09:16 AM

I don't think it should be brought back because they didn't ever have a ban list on the channel 4 forums, it's more fun this way. I guess looking at the results so far I'am the only one so far who thinks this

MeMyselfAndI 01-07-2011 09:30 AM

you have 0 posts fgs and know none of the members

MTVN 01-07-2011 09:35 AM

This is strange :suspect:

Beastie 01-07-2011 11:16 AM

Yes. Bring it back.

So we are informed that a member is banned and for how long!

Instead of the same old "why is so and so banned".

If mods are too scared to post in the ban list then just get James or someone to post in it every time a member gets banned!

Beastie 01-07-2011 11:18 AM

Where is the appeals section please? :S

arista 01-07-2011 11:33 AM

The ban list is up and running

This thread is out of date.

I've got the cynical head on. :suspect:

To be honest: I'm in the minority here. I think the ban list should be only for perma bans.

I'll use me as an example: I tend to be a feisty poster, who will fight my corner as and when.

Some may regard me as being argumentative, when my own perspective is that will put my opinions up, possibly in a blunt, no nonsense way: and that is a posting style some simply do not like or appreciate.

If I was temp banned and the reason for my ban was posted: that would give other members with whom I do not get on with at all, a reason to try then to deliberately 'antagonise' with their own replies to any posts I make - knowing that I will defend and debate till the cows come home..... and when they feel it's time - they can hit the report button citing 'being argumentative' - when it may not necessarily the case.

But as I have been seen as being so on the ban list: it could be any easy way of being 'targeted' (for want of a better word) with no other reason than to be able to hit the 'report' button on me - due to more a personality clash, rather than any valid 'rule break'.

It also gives rise to 'chums' then possibly ganging up on who they think got their pal banned etc, causing unnecessary friction on the forum - making things very personal.

For that reason, I think the ban list should be there only for permabans.

If people are that chummy with each other: they will have each others email addresses/ msn/ other means of contacting the temp banned member to establish how long they were banned for.
