We are so simple we just have one green bin to put all your recyclables in :) And we can put black bins out for your general rubbish :). Though they will refuse to take it if you recycle the wrong things or if you put garden waste in a black bag.

We have a black bin for household rubbish, a green bin for paper and plastics, a brown bin (which we have to pay £40 a year for) for garden rubbish and we have to take glass to the bottle bank ourselves, which is just a short drive away. I like recycling but it would make life so much easier if everyone had the same bins. I only work 2 miles from where I live but it is a different council area and there we have a grenn bin for general waste and a blue bin for recycling, which is really confusing:conf:

Yes. And big letters in different colours. Infact, I want a video demonstration too

Oh I do recycle. Infact get a weird satisfaction from it. It's just with all these PLASTIC bins in my garden I'm losing garden! Can't be good for the environment :nono:

I have only one bin :D

Though plans are in action to make us have 2 and a little green box thing too :bored:

We don't get bins to put stuff in - just bags :(

Maia 15-07-2011 09:21 PM

We have a black bin for household rubbish collected every fortnight.

We have a green bin for garden waste, a green box for paper and a black box for plastics and cans - these ones are collected every fortnight as well.

So one week - household rubbish, the next week - recycling/garden waste, and so on.

We had one bin. One black wheelie bin. You put your rubbish in it and take it out once a week - sorted

Then comes the blue bin. Paper and card is supposed to go in the blue bin. That goes out once a fortnight. OK fair enough.

Then comes a smaller blue bin. The bigger blue bin then becomes for plastic and glass (though only certain plastic. If you put a juice bottle in they won't take it) and the smaller blue bin becomes for paper and card. These now get taken fortnightly

Still with me?

Finally. The latest letter we have is a GREEN waste service. These are green bags for garden waste that are taken once a month. No day. They just give you a 'week they are due' and you have to leave your green bags out (not black - they won't take black bags and not more that 6 - they won't take more than 6)

Is there any wonder that for one, I'm losing the plot and two, nobody recycles!!!!!

Geezo... I thought we were bad down my way with 3 (Black, Blue and Green).

Clearly some crackpot heid honcho coming up with these ideas......

We have 3 bins

Grey Bin - General waste gets emptied once a fortnight.

Blue Bin - Recycling emptied once a month

Brown Bin - Grass/Garden Waste emptied once a month but only during summer.

The grey bin is usually full after a week so we have to end up going to the dump once or twice a fortnight with the rest of our general waste.

This shows how nuts this all is. You come under NLC don't you? If so, so do I - yet our schedule is:-

Black/Grey - fortnightly

Blue - fortnightly (ie: swops between black bin schedule)

Brown bin - monthly

Does your brown bin get emptied once a month even during winter?

you know... I don't have a clue. that sounds mental.... but I have a guy who does my garden and he always puts it out for me, and when I come back home..... it's always back where it belongs (and I have NO idea who puts it away for me!!!!). One of my neighbours obviously:but no idea which one!!

I've never actually noticed what happens in winter.... but it's becuase I don't ever put it out myself. (need to get the neighbours trained up to the the blue bin, my next door neighbour always does my black/blue one too!).

*spoiled rotten*

I hardly use mine, theres a clearing behind the trees at the back of my house (still in my garden though) and I normally just dump all the grass in there.

compost!!! Environmentaly friendly on two scores - 1.saves on the big truck coming round and 2. saves excess paper use, you know, no need for the lazy gits slapping on their lovely white (impossible to remove) stickers saying "This is too heavy, our delicate little handies and perfectly manicured fingernails might get snagged if we try to pull this ergonomically designed wheelie bin, onto the lifting mechanism"

You should ask for a rebate Josy!!! :D
