I can see another plane going into it as soon as its built and opened

I love the waterfalls, I was watching that thing on Sky News and they look fantastic. Its a shame they couldn't go to the full 70 feet though and had to stop at 30

This picture is beautiful

They looks far better than that ugly new tower - the new tower looks like it's for France.

That light/shining idea is like shadows of where the towers stood, I think it's beautiful - are they not going ahead with that now?

They've been shining the 2 lights every year on the anniversary since 2002, and I assume they will continue doing it every year for the anniversary. Also the new tower is NOT where the old towers were. The footprints of the old towers are now waterfalls.

As far as the new tower looking like it's for France?? i have no idea what that means.

Yep :D Although the second tower looks distorted from some angles which is weird. My fav will be Richard Rogers tower, because I think his work is amazing.

France?? France is undoubtedly one of the worlds most fore-thinking countries architecturally. If France was to build a tower over 400m tall it would probably look amazing. Infact they already have the Eiffel Tower, which is the most famous tower on this planet. Also Tour First, Hermitage Plaza, (Future tallest buildings in EU) Tour Phare (which will be revolutionary when it's built) and Tour Montparnasse (Previous tallest building in EU) are all great examples of fantastic & modern French towers, not to mention low-rises such as the Pompidou Centre and La Grande Arch.

Also, those beams of light are only installed each year of the anniversary of 9/11 I think.

It looks like Canary Wharf

Callum 11-09-2011 06:43 PM

I just watched a programme about this, it's going to be much safer than the Twin towers. LED lights on the stairs if all the electricity goes off, the doors automatically shut to prevent any toxic air getting into the stairwells, the stairwells themselves are much wider allowing more people to run down them, intercoms allowing access to fire service and police in the case of an emergency, more sprinklers. 2013 it'll be finished, can't wait to see it complete.

lostalex 11-09-2011 06:43 PM

I think the 2 main buildings really do capture a spirit of 9/11 though. the Freedom Tower looks like it's twisting, an the diamond building looks like the top was cut off by a samurai sword. So in a way, it's almost like 2 distorted an damaged twin towers.

The Chrysler Building is still the most beautiful skyscraper in the world in my opinion though.

Callum 11-09-2011 06:49 PM

If resembles both the original WTC towers and the Washington monument.

lostalex 11-09-2011 07:03 PM

I also like how the freedom tower looks like it's twisting away from the twins, as if it can't bear to look at the empty holes, too painful.

Doogle 11-09-2011 07:04 PM

I don't like it :/

^^ awesome pics. Awesome memorial services. I really don't give a flying feck what kind of crap Al Jazeera or the Guardian, or RT tries to say....

It was a great memorial service, they got the tone of the day just right, it was perfect.

Callum 12-09-2011 02:59 AM

Yeah, I agree the memorial service today was very moving.

Is it true that this year was the last time that the two beams of light would be shot up into the sky like in that above picture?

Conor 12-09-2011 10:56 AM

I really do think the memorial is stunning. It's certainly one of the most ingenious I've ever seen. I think it's my fav in the world along with the Holocaust memorial in Berlin. btw, regarding the tower- I think I already mentioned it in this thread, but there's nothing overly special about it. Especially considering how much future media attention it will get and what it has replaced. I do like the fact there are 8 sides on the one tower though. I think it's a nice nod to the old towers which combined had 8 sides. Also, the mast at the top is very reminiscent of WTC1, especially from silhouetted renders in the distance. The best modern tower in NYC however issss....

BoA tower

78 / 104 floors done

daniel-lewis-1985 23-12-2011 09:27 PM

I really wish they had rebuilt the towers as they were as a two fingers up to the terrorist ***** who killed so many people.
