I didn't say anything about one being better than the other... all I said was that there have always been terrible songs in the charts.

Black Dagger 21-09-2011 06:59 PM

The UK charts have been ****e for years... I think the only songs I've liked that have been in the top 5 this year is Heaven, Jar of Hearts and Party Rock Anthem

Aww, ta Patrick <3...

But yeah with the music taste I have, I'm not expected to like much that is in the charts... 'HIPSTER ALERT' I like to find music myself, not have it forced upon me...

MeMyselfAndI 21-09-2011 07:03 PM

Heaven, Collide, Moves like Jagger, Don't Hold Your Breath

Smithy 21-09-2011 07:03 PM

PRA is one of the worst songs ever, just ever, LMFAO can go die in a hole for making me have to put up with that song for the summer

Doogle 21-09-2011 07:04 PM

I see the charts being mainly dubstep in the next few years :( I hope the charts get better in a few years though, cos I'm really sick of this **** constasntly being released

InOne 21-09-2011 07:05 PM

Last time I liked it properly was 06 when Indie became a bit popular

Maia 21-09-2011 07:05 PM

The charts have been awful since 2010. I'd say 2009 but 2009 had Pixie Lott and quite a few other gems. Just look at the list of #1s for 2010 and all you can think is "Why the bloody hell?"

1138 Ne-Yo "Beautiful Monster"

I mean seriously how did that EVER get to #1. No one even remembers it.

1126 Usher featuring will.i.am "OMG"
1134 JLS "The Club Is Alive"
1149 JLS "Love You More"

god I mean...why

Yeah, it went all 'rocky' for a bit with the Kaisers, Razorlight etc... then an influx of generic pop just swarmed the nation xD.

Doogle 21-09-2011 07:06 PM

I liked some of last year, but the other half was ****.

2006 was an amazing year for music imo. Lots of genres in the charts too

It's hard to think looking back that The Bravery were tipped to be quite a bit deal.

LOL I'm on YouTube now listening to loads of Indie Songs I use to like [because of this thread] and on Vevo it just says like '(C) 2006' in every song - no wonder that year was so amazing for music.

I hated it to be honest in like May and June and then on Holiday it was played alot and It grew on me, I love it - it's really catchy.

I also liked On The Floor, for the same reason - use to hate it, was played in Summer, grew on me because of the sheer catchiness of the tune.

I only listen to 'On The Floor' if it's a Solo Version though without that wanker Pitbull.

GypsyGoth 21-09-2011 07:46 PM

The song isn't bad, it's well crafted. It's got a very american style.

I don't think music has gotten any worse than it was years ago; I think it's just your perception changes as you get older - I look back on the mid 2000s fondly as it was when I was growing up as a teenager; whereas I look at the last few years in a pretty negative way whereas the trend I've noticed is that the younger members who've posted in this thread seem to like the music from the year that they were early teens... idk, maybe that's just coincidental. There is still good music out there being released, it's just a little less obvious where you have to look in order to find it.

The decent tunes still broke the charts back then because everyone bought singles.

I find it so bizarre that people still follow the charts. And I don't mean looking at the countdown on TV out of curiosity. I mean really following the charts.

Anyway how dare he tarnish this hallowed ground of superior music etc.

I agree, 80's chart pop music actually had some soul to it, nowadays every song is either Tiny Tampon wittering on about LYF In Da Hud, JLS wanking over underage fans or some slag like Ke$ha singing about going out and having sex with everyone in the club. It all just feels heartless and ruthlessly manufactured in every single aspect.

I think you're probably right there, really it's not like there's been a huge sudden decline in the quality of music being produced in the space of just a couple of years, I think it's more to do with people's perspectives just changing

Number ones this time since 95...

95 - Shaggy 'Boombastic'
96 - Fugees 'Ready or Not'
97 - Spice Girls 'Spice Up Your Life'
98 - Mel B Feat Missy Elliot 'I Want You Back'
99 - Eiffel65 'Blue (Da Ba Dee)'
00 - Modjo 'Lady'
01 - Kylie Minogue 'Cant Get You Out Of My Head'
02 - Pink 'Just Like A Pill'
03 - Black Eyed Peas 'Where Is The Love'
04 - Eric Prydz 'Call On Me'
05 - Pussycat Dolls 'Dont Cha'
06 - Scissor Sisters 'Dont Feel Like Dancing'
07 - Sean Kingston 'Beautiful Girl'
08 - Kings Of Leon 'Sex On Fire' (I absolutely hated this song)
09 - Taio Cruz 'Break Your Heart'
10 - Alexandra Burke 'Start Without You' (Ive never even heard this song)
11 - One Direction 'What Makes You Beautiful'

You can clearly see the last 3/4 years, number ones have been declining rapidly - all the ones from 95-08 are actually worthy of getting number 1
