What's the difference between 'Song of the Year' and 'Record of the Year'?

Samuel. 12-01-2012 10:36 PM

Song of the year is for the performer, record of the year is for the writer, I believe. Something like that.

Shaun 12-01-2012 10:38 PM

underwhelmed by the performers to say the least

Locke. 11-02-2012 10:37 AM

Which means that, on Sunday, the front row will be populated by Katy Perry, Rihanna and Fergie. Heavily-favored Adele will sit in row two, next to Bruce Springsteen. Taylor Swift shares a row with Nicki Minaj, Lady Gaga is seated next to Miranda Lambert, Bon Iver is across the aisle from R. Kelly (imagine the possibilities!), and Chris Brown will rub elbows with the indomitable Diana Ross.

Tomorrow :amazed:

Callum 11-02-2012 02:31 PM

Looking forward to it.

Mainly Coldplay/Rihanna, Katy debuting Part of Me and Adele's live comeback.

Smithy 12-02-2012 01:25 AM

There's rumors that they're going to delay the awards because of whats happened

Hope there's a tribute performance to her

Perfectly understandable.

ILoveTRW 12-02-2012 01:29 AM

Don't be ridiculous, there is more chance of whits being resurrected

Smithy 12-02-2012 01:30 AM

that  was coz she's died not coz they're possibly being postponed ;o

Roy Mars III 12-02-2012 01:31 AM

They'll probably be a huge tribute with basically any female singer they can find seeing a medley of her songs.

Kanye West's Grammy Snub Had Jimmy Jam 'A Little Surprised'
The Recording Academy's chair emeritus weighs in on this year's biggest Grammy controversy.

LOS ANGELES — First and foremost, Jimmy Jam is best known as one-half of the most successful production duos on the planet, working with cohort Terry Lewis to amass a string of 16 #1 hits on the Billboard Hot 100 for the likes of Mariah Carey, Janet Jackson and Usher.

But over the years, Jam has also become known for his work with the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences, where he currently serves as chair emeritus. Of course, NARAS is the organization that hands out the Grammy Awards, so when MTV News spoke with Jam on Friday night's MusiCares red carpet, we figured there was no one better to weigh in on this year's biggest Grammy controversy: the odd (and some would say inexcusable) absence of Kanye West's universally acclaimed My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy in the Album of the Year category.

And Jam wasn't afraid to address the issue. He'll be the first to admit that sometimes the Grammy voters make, uh, interesting choices when it comes to nominations. He thinks he knows what happened in Kanye's case: He actually put out two really great albums during the eligibility period.

"I was a little surprised that it did not get nominated," Jam said. "But it happens a lot of times when you have two really great records, and by the way, Watch the Throne is a great album on it's own. Sometimes the votes split, and that may have been what happened."

Of course, there are some who believe that the My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy AOTY snub had less to do with vote splitting and more to do with the Grammys' dislike for West and his antics. But Jam wants to let everyone know that's simply not the case. In fact, he's one of the rapper's biggest supporters. To him, this was simply a matter of bad timing. Nothing more, nothing less.

"It's interesting, because we don't really tabulate the votes ... it goes to a separate place [the auditing firm of Deloitte]. We don't touch that stuff," Jam said. "So a lot of times, [we're] very surprised by what the nominations actually end up being. I think Kanye's record is one of the best records of the year, but sometimes it's just timing."

It would have only lost to 21 anyway, but still :bored: Who the hell was voting WTT over MBDTF.

Callum 12-02-2012 01:34 AM

The awards are going to have a real melancholy feel to them now. I suspect most artists will name Whitney in their acceptance speeches. This is too sad. :(

Yeah, rather have him get snubbed than losing to ****ing Adele. Still he'll get best rap album, so it's all good

I dunno. Maybe the split of votes will cause both to lose out on Rap AOTY as well.

I'll even be mad if WTT wins.

Roy Mars III 12-02-2012 01:50 AM

I hope not. If Nicki Minaj wins I will probably break my tv though,

Shaun 12-02-2012 01:54 AM

is the ceremony on UK tv (live?) I assume not, it never is :(...

Smithy 12-02-2012 01:55 AM

No, i don't even think ITV2 were showing it this year

That might have changed now though

Jords 12-02-2012 01:55 AM

Definitely gonna be busy tryna get a tribute sorted.

Dont see the point in that really.... outstanding singer, outstanding junkie, they wouldnt even know a Cause of Death at this stage..............

Brother Leon 12-02-2012 02:04 AM

Samuel & Roy don't understand that it is Jigga's name that gets the sales and credit...hence why WTT got nominated :idc:

Samuel. 12-02-2012 02:06 AM

Is that why MBDTF outsold WTT?

Samuel. 12-02-2012 05:44 PM

What time is it on tonight?

ILoveTRW 12-02-2012 05:46 PM

Kinda of sad i can't watch live, in early tomorrow.
The only awards that I make sure I watch live are the VMAs.
