I agree, I don't think it's that big a deal.

For those of you who think its perfectly admirable or acceptable to stick a tampon into someones tea, even if its unused, then you really need to grow up.

I think the connotations that a tampon carries makes it sound more disgusting than it actually is, if it's unused it's basically just putting cotton in the tea

if it was a joke, then maybe you, should grow a sense of humor

It was clearly a gesture of contempt intended for the cameras -- a tampon is just a tube of absorbent cotton wool or whatever and it is only the context of how it is used that is bothering people...if she had dropped a cotton-wool ball in there no-one would really care, but conversely she wouldn't have done that because it would not have had any visual or mental association impact.

It is precisely as you say: the gesture was an act of complete contempt, and designed soley around getting it caught on camera.

Yep... the shot that we saw her simulating sex when she was atop someone, wearing her beige combat trousers... the thrusting action was the way a MAN would thrust. It was 'weird' (in fact, I cant quite find the word I'm looking for.... almost 'disturbing'... nope that's not right either)
