My dad even likes Busted...and he is 49

Though his reasoning is 'at least they play their own instruments unlike the rest of the manufactured crap' :D

(Secretly though, I believe its because I used to blast the songs 24/7 when I lived at home, and he just liked them)

Jords 30-10-2011 11:54 PM

-likes Busted- :amazed:

I think by the time you get to 49, your ears are only fit for Busted or Westlife if you've had your kids music blasting away at you for years. :laugh2:

Only because they have been in them for years. Is there a new boyband of thirty somethings I don't know about?

Kookily contrived ones do.

There was definitely more men at the Take That shows this summer then there was a few years ago, though they still say they were dragged along and obviously it's still about 80% women.

I love people like James Corden who openly admits his boyband love.

MTVN 31-10-2011 02:23 AM

Westlife are a fantastic band, as are (to a lesser extent) Boyzone, Take That and the Backstreet Boys

Quite liked A1 on last nights BOTS aswell.

Caught in the Middle is a great song.

LOL...my sympathies

I'm mid 30s, and never even heard of A1, Busted, JLS. Maybe it's part coz i'm from Australia...are they English? When i was at school New Kids On The Block were big, but seemed to be totally the domain of the girls. One mate i remember had slightly dodgy music tastes, and reputably had a Kylie poster on his wall, but he came out of the closet a few years later!

G1dds 31-10-2011 04:17 AM

of course - most of us in our 30s were around with the original likes of Boyzone, Backstreet Boys, NKOTB, E17, Take That etc, so would have grown up with their music ringing in our ears :D Most people I know, still love the ol' boybands ............ crikey, I think Im a bigger fan of Take That this year round than last and haven't you heard alot of peeps getting excited that Steps are making a reappearance :D (not me I hasten to add, and yes I know they are not a Boy Band just making a point)

Nothing wrong with a love of boy bands - the Beatles were one of the originals and my dad never grew out of them, infact he gathered a love of a few more current ones on the way and has JLS currently on board lol (& my dad, hitting 60, has been a musician since 11). So no, its not unusual for a man of 30 to love boy bands

so there :D

We obviously hang out in different circles, coz i've honestly never heard any 30s male friend or acquaintance mentioning Boybands.

As Seinfeld would say, not that's there anything wrong with that! ;)

It's completely debatable, but i wouldn't consider The Beatles a boyband, from how the term derived in the 80s. Yes, the Beatles were all male, but they played their own instruments on stage without backing, and wrote most of their songs. If you're going back in time, i'd consider boyband's have more in common with the doo wop groups of the 50/60s, who often recorded other people's songs and stood around mics, singing acapella or with backing musicians.

Ah well, my circle of friends are still fun loving and childish at heart - I swear we all still think we are 17 still (but with responsibilities now :( )

Weirdly, most of my buddies are primary school teachers :joker:

My dad loves a bit of One Direction (voted for them last year) and he's 41...

Think he's going through a mid life crisis, poor sod.

Shardlake 31-10-2011 07:11 AM

Last nights episode more than ever made me realise how much of a game plan he has.

Boy bands = tennage girls vote - check

Getting up from bed to do a spontaneous dance in the bathroom, oh thats a definite vote winner and will probably land me an advert with domestos - check

I hope he's next out

Although I dont really like any of them

Jay is just the absolute epitome of chav
Louise is just a council house benefit claiming chav waiting to happen
Aaron see above
Tom - he makes my skin crawl

That leaves Alex who is also a chav but she she has redeeming qualities in that she is quite charming and witty. So I hope she wins.

Oh forgot Faye shes just a whiny wet female version of Aaron
