Saying "I would love to kick the **** out of you" or "if i was on the outside and you said that i would kick your ass" is not a direct threat.
Saying"i am going to kick the **** out of you when we get out" is a direct threat
or "say that again and i will kick your ass" is a threat

He is such a miserable attention seeker, me and they wife have a large group of friends and 12 women went on holiday yearly, one of them was exactly like Aaron (miserable as **** and impossible to keep happy) BUT all they talked about on return was her,
