That article is terrible though, typical stirring nonsense from a paper made only to enrage gullible idiots.

Spiffing

The statistics speak for themselves, if people aren't buying them then the supermarkets won't stock them. Its just bad business sense.

It is indeed bad business sense to stock what does not sell, that there is no demand for.

Should it be a case of expecting card shops to stock what isn't demanded, let them stock up on religious cards that won't sell - help put them out of business, bankrupt them, owners have to sell up, have no income, can't pay mortgage/rent : lose house, end up on street.

Merry Christmas one and all. Religion: it's got a lot to answer for !

I'd say that was pretty spot on Dezzy.

Thankfully, I'm not one of those enraged gullible idiots that get stirred up by such daftness.

Wonder if it was purchased at the Chapel/Church shop...... that's where most people I know who are religious, tend to buy their from: money all going to the faith and all that.

You should ask where they bought it and call the Daily Mail, let them know where their religious readers can procure such a thing.

I dunno, she's Catholic so it's just one of those with our lady on. So maybe the church or something

Surely if she's catholic, it would be the Chapel?

The word chapel is in particularly common usage in the United Kingdom, and even more so in Wales, for independent or nonconformist places of worship; and in Scotland and Ireland for Roman Catholic churches

That would depend where the sender lives then surely?

Think the term chapel is only really used in more rural areas. Was brought up a Catholic and the only place I have heard it used when referrring to a Catholic Church was in Ireland when referring to a smaller church or up here with the local porridge **** out in the sticks.

InOne 22-12-2011 02:00 PM

I've never used chapel at all. It's always been Church. For either Catholic or CofE

MTVN 22-12-2011 02:04 PM

There's a "Chapel" in our village but it's a baptist one, never really known the difference tbh

dunno... I'm not sure myself where the distinction lies (if any at all tbh)

Being a very lapsed Catholic of (too) many years - it was always referred to as Chapel up my way.

I'd read that InOne in particular, mostly due to him having explained he'd taken a great interest (and did well) in R.E. Studies - it could just be a personal preference on terminology I guess.

Yep, it really doesn't matter. Especially even more when you're an Atheist.

Shasown 22-12-2011 02:11 PM

All the churches that I was dragged to by my parents, used to have smaller areas tucked away in the wings, mostly dedicated to JC's mum, Mary, or the saint the church was dedcated to. These were referred to as chapels.

Oh one other place would be the multi denominational place of prayer in hospitals they were often called chapels, think they are now "quiet" rooms or some such rubbish.

Has familiar rings to it. Aye the wee 'quiet' bit that was glassed off....where people took their screaming bairns. :joker:

Dragged by the collar - brings back memories.

As well as getting clipped on the ear coz I wanted to attend wearing a pair of very 'trendy' lilac coloured flares with a multi coloured tank top - and told my gran God didn't care what I wore - as long as I went.

I learned very quickly that what God cared about, mattered less than what SHE cared about....... - via a rather brutal scud on the head courtesy of the auld dear! :D

Maybe you should choose a different God to believe in every week to make totally sure you cover all bases ;)

Maybe I'm old enough to make my own decisions ;)

Perhaps I'll even dabble in a bit of good old fashioned Satanism too.

Or then again could go down the best of everything route and join the Bahá'í faith.

I have always felt it was the same god in all the religions, just the idiots in charge of the methodology of worship were different. Or then again maybe Gods just a joker, slipping each religion the nod, quietly telling each religion they were the chosen people and other groups were heathen etc. Then sitting back and watching the fireworks.

Clearly not seen as you can't decide if there is a God or not :)

Yeah, someone once said to me they found it amazing that the main religions had all these similarities and it must mean there is "something there". I was just thinking "Orrrrrrr they just all copied off eacohther". I didn't say anything though, saw her face light up so didn't want to ruin her moment of enlightenment :joker:

That's the benefit of being a grown up you see: you don't need to be forced into making decisions you don't want to - or have no need to make.

It's called having choices. :)

That must have been a rarity for you. A miracle perhaps!! :D
