Super producer Swizz Beatz is in hot water with Universal Music Group over the promotion of his website Megaupload.com, according to reports that resurfaced today. As CEO of the online storage and file-sharing site, Beatz asked buddies Diddy, Kanye and Will.i.am to spread the buzz in a promotional video, the "Megaupload Mega Song," that the artists' label Universal Music Group allegedly did not approve. UMG issued a “take-down notice” late last year and Megaupload has responded with a counter lawsuit against the label.

Mystic Mock 20-01-2012 03:57 PM

Well done Megaupload as the Americans have no right to tell the world what we can and can't do.

We might teach the Republicans how to use the Internet though, maybe they will learn then that democracy is good.

Me. I Am Salman 20-01-2012 05:23 PM

is this new site real? could be a fake ya never know!! i doubt its genuine because the people behind megaupload are facing criminal charges

Come on of all the issues America has they go for piracy?:joker:

And it wasn't like the owners had a gun or knife going give me such and such or i'm going to ****ing kill you.

lostalex 21-01-2012 03:47 AM

Well it's shut down and the creators and owners are arrested, so i'm wondering where that leaves the case for SOPA/PIPA? Obviously the government doesn't need SOPA/PIPA to be able to shut down pirate websites.

Mystic Mock 21-01-2012 03:51 AM

There using it to censor the Internet and become like China Lostalex.

Wrong. china censors the internet to repress political uprising. Megaupload had nothing to do with politics, it was just pirated music and movies and porn. And the owners were making a fortune. Read this article in the Sydney Morning Herald...

It really puts things into perspective. The guy is a criminal, not a political dissident.

That was mean't to just be the start though Lostalex, gradually over time America was/still could be in secret planning to censor everything on the Internet because once they get away with it you will see places like the UK trying to inforce it aswell like the bastards our Governments are.

If the circumstances are right they dont need SOPA/PIPA. Just a country they can put pressure on to cede to their wishes.

The only problem is the backlash from groups like Anonymous, the reaction so far has shown that the US establishments own websites are vulnerable to cyber attack, even if its only the publicly accessible pages.

So there will be an increase on the amount of cyber attacks on US sites. Sooner or later extremist groups get in on that act.

The US government has to be lucky all the time, a cyber terrorist/hacker only has to get lucky once to take out an important database and its backups.

lostalex 21-01-2012 05:58 AM

Well the stupid things about the Anonymous attacks are that they don't actually do any damage to those entities, it just disrupts the public websites, the same public websites that are there for people to get information and be able to e-mail them with criticism.

When they shut down the DoJ website, or the FBI website, it doesn't disrupt anything in the DoJ or FBI, it just disrupts the website that allows people to e-mail them and criticize it, so Anonymous are the real hypocrites. They say they want more transperancy and accountability, so they block websites that are actually giving people access and transperancy??

It makes no sense.

Yep I agree they are seemingly senseless attacks.

However given the media coverage of them, it encourages other would be hackers to have a go, and one day someone will stumble across a way into an important database, its happened before in the past with US DoD and NorAd, etc. It will happen again.

that's not a certainty yet, i think they are appealing the extradition, much like Gary McKinnon and Roman Polanski.

Given the Anti-American sentiment they might not be extradited.

MattySlug 21-01-2012 10:14 AM

I am sad because there were heaps of NOFX Bootlegs only avaliable from Megaupload.

I am pretty depressed I didn't get them while I had the chance

Filesonic Kills File-Sharing Service After MegaUpload Arrests
Filesonic, one of the Internet’s leading cyberlocker services, has taken some drastic measures following the Megaupload shutdown and arrests last week. In addition to discontinuing its affiliates rewards program and not yet paying accrued money to members, the site has disabled all sharing functionality, leaving users only with access to their own files.
