This is just tracking, not actual figures. I seriously doubt it will beat Deathly Hallows Part 1's opening weekend gross.

I'd never even heard of Hunger Games until a couple of days ago ..and i'm still not 100% sure what it is :s

First I thought it was a game show ..then a Tibb thing ..now I know its a movie?

It's a trilogy of books, the first of which is being turned into a film being released next week.

It's about a televised fight to the death involving 24 kids between the ages of 12-18 from the 12 Districts of a post-apocalyptic America :amazed:

The Hunger Games has topped the US box office with $155 million.

The movie, based on the best-selling book by Suzanne Collins, has made history by earning the third biggest movie debut of all time, and the highest debut for any movie opening outside of summer.

It stars Jennifer Lawrence as Katniss Everdeen, a young girl who must fight to the death on live television in a dystopian version of the future. It also features Josh Hutcherson, Liam Hemsworth, Lenny Kravitz, Woody Harrelson and Elizabeth Banks.

The debut knocked out the hit Channing Tatum comedy 21 Jump Street, which fell to number two on the list, making $21.3 million.

Also still hanging on to the top spots are The Lorax in third place with $13.1 million, and the sci-fi adventure John Carter, coming in at number four with a little over $5 million.

John Carter, which stars Taylor Kitsch, Willem Dafoe and Dominic West, has proven to be a major flop for Disney, which has lost $200 million in the investment.

An even less stellar performance came from the anti-abortion movie October Baby, which debuted at number 8, earning $1.7 million.

Making $1.3 million, the Dwayne Johnson family adventure Journey 2: The Mysterious Island rounds out the top ten.
You were all saying? :idc:

You can bow now

Marc 25-03-2012 05:37 PM

Interesting, definitely need to watch this film

What is 2nd highest opening ever?

HP is 1st right?

Marc 25-03-2012 05:38 PM

Can't stand Twilight, so glad that it's beaten it.

I can't see the appeal for Twilight, Robert Pattinson is one of the most overrated actors at the moment and Kristen Stewart can't even act.

Was the same for me at first but recently they've been going on about it on the radio, youtube videos have started with the trailer and the buses here have got adverts for it, even had my brother telling me last night that it's really good :bored:

Quite tempted to actually see the film now

Smithy 25-03-2012 05:48 PM

There's a reason it's performing so well :idc:

Alright alright :idc: I find it really hard to read what you post, it's often utter rubbish.

Locke. 25-03-2012 05:52 PM

Miscount

GypsyGoth 25-03-2012 05:52 PM

I think it's purely the story that's attracting the audiences. Katniss is amazing
