Can I ask you why you would accept evolution, but believe that it needs to be guided by god?

I think everything is just luck, Mankind and everything else is just one massive amazing mistake lol.

No plan, just things spiralled.

I don't think so. Intelligent design is the Adam and Even argument I think. Its something separate. I know what you mean, though.

And it's because I find it too bleak to believe in a world where my existence is essentially based on chance, and that when I die, everything will cease completely. That terrifies me. That and, I think evolution is slightly inadequate as a theory on its own. The idea of things gradually coming into being is a bit too simple for me.

Believing that a higher power guided it all fixes those issues for me. It just makes sense to my mind.

Yeah. I also think that there was human life on earth just like us millions of years ago that got wiped out just like we will and the whole thing will start again.

The universe is to big for there not to be other life out there. There has to be bacteria or plants atleast.

Alot of people say nothing could live on certain planets but just because we couldnt doesnt mean another life needs oxygen or cooler temperatures or the same conditions we need to survive.

I could go on about this forever lol

The First People? I'm pretty sure it's not possible for that to be the case.

Why not? you have mayan civilisations, atlantis...Who knows what else disappeared when the continents split. Have you ever heard of the Philistines btw?

Marsh. 12-03-2012 10:54 PM

I'm sure I learnt at school there were some scientific facts and evidence to suggest it was impossible for humans to exist before the dinosaurs. I can't remember what it was exactly, it's getting my research juices flowing.

You do realise Atlantis is not a proven fact?

You are right. The atmosphere was very different than it is today, and there were no mammals around at that time, either. A species like ours, evolving from apes (who are also mammals and as such didn't exist then either) would have been eaten in seconds.

These civilisations can be measured in thousands of years past, not millions.

SharkAttack 12-03-2012 11:09 PM

A good question would be if we think there is a higher intelligence in the universe besides ourselves. To that I would have to be Undecided. But yes, I'd say life in some form exists away from our planet.

Marc 12-03-2012 11:10 PM

No.

And we'll never know. We'll be long dead before any of that stuff surfaces, so it's best we just get over it.

You might want to re-read the posts leading up to yours again, then.

Because, from what I learnt, the state of the planet was not habitable for the human species.

I was talking about the possible existence of humans before the dinosaurs roamed the earth.

You provided a link to a 12,000 year old skeleton. What's the purpose?

Its a springboard...as long as you stick to academic sites the purpose was to highlight how WE evolved.

Again, what does this have to do with predating the dinosaurs who existed millions of years ago?

Tom4784 13-03-2012 12:34 AM

I always thought it was quite foolish to think that we are alone. We'll never know in our lifetime for certain but I always imagined there being a number of planets just like ours somewhere with people and animals that are more or less like us who are probably pondering the same thing.
