I completely agree with your dad too Vicky. They shouldn't give such an open ended question like that if they are going to kick up a fuss about the kind of answers they get. :joker:

daniel-lewis-1985 15-05-2012 11:03 AM

I was a little bastard in school so if that question was put infront of me i would have found it very hard not to write "She used to fondle me" LOL

Vicky. 15-05-2012 12:13 PM

OK Im glad everyone seems to agree that its absolutely ****ing stupid. I thought maybe I was being a bit biased because its my brother

I havent heard anything else about this yet, so Im assuming the second meeting hasnt happened yet...hopefully they have the sense to just drop it now. Surely they can see they have no case whatsoever.

If they do try taking it further, I will pass on that email address to my dad though daniel, cheers for that :)

Honestly i would put money on it that they would run that story.

Why ask if you can't handle the answer

Ramsay 15-05-2012 01:43 PM

you want the truth?
YOU CANT HANDLE THE TRUTH!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Got his results today, they did disallow his french one because of this.

Was the only subject he got a B in..and all because of this. Everything else was A or A*

What a pisstake. Still great results, but to disallow something for this :bored:

Take it to the papers. They will defo run that story, especially as your brother did so well in everything else.

What??? I'd fight that if I were him/your dad, that's an outrage

Kate! 22-08-2013 10:56 AM

yeah I agree, that's disgraceful. Kick up a massive fuss Vicky. He's obviously worked dammed hard to get those grades, why should he not get the full recognition he is entitled to.

Vicky. 22-08-2013 10:56 AM

I hope they do..but I can't see it. These results are not going to affect anything, especially with the others being high and a B still being good.

He just wanted good enough results to do medical school. As his sciences and stuff are fine, this affects nothing so I cant see him pushing it :/

It's the principal of it though, I'd be livid if it happened to one of my kids

I know it's sort of "well he did great in everything else so I guess we can leave it", I'd probably feel the same way on some level... but if for no other reason - your brother has worked incredibly hard to be brilliant at everything he does at school and to be penalised for being honest in a respectful manner is the most ludicrous thing ever. The school are clearly closing rank around the teacher so if I were you, I'd go to your local MP rather than the exam board (which will side with the school) who actually has some clout. Going to the media will just drag your brother through the mud which might really upset him, even if everyone's supportive, I don't think he'd want the local area or even the nation knowing his name and what happened to him etc... but if you contact your local MP and go see him/her, perhaps they could take it to the exam board and get things sorted properly. Your brother put the work in and got the result, he did not get a B grade, so he should not have been given one.

Vicky. 22-08-2013 11:15 AM

I don't think its my place to do anything really..as much as I would love to. I will try and convince my dad, but probably wont be too successful :(

Yeah, i suppose it's up to him really.

RichardG 22-08-2013 11:24 AM

Was this an official GCSE paper that he wrote the comment in? :conf:

Vicky. 22-08-2013 11:27 AM

I dont know if it was coursework or one of the exams..but yeah it was a proper GCSE thing

Apparently things have changed since I was at school and now the 'exam' side of it is split into one near the end of year 10 and the ones at the end of year 11 or something?

Oh, yeah, probably the coursework - I was really confused for a minute because at our school our teachers weren't even allowed in the room when the exams were handed out, let alone look through our answers after we had finished.

That's still completely ridiculous though. In one of my French speaking assessments we had to talk about school, our teachers etc and we were actively encouraged to mention the positives and negatives to each one to show you are able to do that, so I said something along the lines of "I love my English teacher, he is very nice and kind to us but my Maths teacher is very nasty and strict." I got an B for it - though not because it was a terrible thing to say, just because i'm not very good at it. If I wrote it at A* standard like your brother then they would have given me one without any issue. And 'nasty' is harsher than 'unpleasant'!

If he wants to apply to medical school then he'll be competing against people with straight A*s across the board in both GCSE AND A Level. Would one B affect his chances? No, not really, but his application would obviously look better if he had his deserved A* grade instead. I wouldn't give up on trying to get it.

Outrageous! Don't ask the question if you don't want to hear the answer. Get your MP involved, get him/her to contact the minister for Education... make a massive fuss! B*stards....
