All the hate for him is a bit strong. This is the kind of thing we should expect him to do and frankly I think some of his comments are quite funny.

I see it as he is having a pop at the whole manufacturing of Cowell's X-Factor, rather than at individuals, although he definitely is at some (such as Simon and Tulisa). Stating they are interested in money/fame rather than artistic input and values.
