This is my point, often you hear white kids speaking in the same "gangsta" accent not just those from Afro-Caribbean or Asian backgrounds. The parents speak what I call "normally" yet the kids speak in this false, put on accent trying to be "cool". Why?

My father was from Clyde Bank near Glasgow. He had a strong accent all his life. I'm one of five kids and not none of us speaks with a Glaswegian accent. We were raised in Surrey so have more of a south London accent. Thus, I don't fall for the idea that the kids speak like this because that's how their parents speak. Besides, I hear almost no elderly Afro-Caribbean people speak with this stupid "gangsta" accent. It's totally put on and false.

If it's American why then do English kids try speaking with the accent? Makes no sense to me. Perhaps I should start speaking with a French accent, always loved the sound of French accents and the French are cool aren't they?

Why is it so hard for people to understand that someone from an estate in South/North London whatever is going to talk differently than someone living in Belgravia etc. It all comes down to surroundings. Same way someone from Buckinghamshire or Windsor will probably speak with an inflated posh accent. To the people who speak "Gangster" this would be seen as put on and probably fake.

Who are we to judge how someone else speaks? *shrug*

We have 7 year olds near me who talk this way all "Innit," shaking fingers like twats, if this was my child it would be nipped in the bud, but sadly ,this is chav culture,I may start talking in Italian accent as this is my fav ,but dont think a mix of Italian and broad Yorkshire would blend very well

Probably because half the kids today speaking with this ridiculous, fake, accent were not raised on estates in London. No, many are from posh or middle class backgrounds trying to look cool? Just like that idiot Aiden in Big Brother last year. From a good background yet spoke like a gangsta WHY?!

Agree, Aden is a classic example of a basically middle class kid trying to look cool but instead coming across as a total prat. I think the schools should refuse to speak to these kids if they speak this rubbish and nip it in the bud as soon as. It's ruining the English Language.

Robertocarlo 21-08-2012 12:37 PM

It's all this stupid emphasis of over pronouncing their "Cs" to sound like "Ks" that also does my head in. That with those stupid hand gestures, what's that all about?????

Brother Leon 21-08-2012 12:39 PM

Aden was hardly from a Middle Class, posh area. It's fully understandable why he could speak like that. Same way Harvey and Ashley do aswell. As for "gangster caps" chuff...Really? lol

Dont get me started !!!!!!:devil::devil: all my 4 children ,even thought they were born and raised in Yorkshire, and I speak pretty broad Yorkshire ,all talk nice, no accent, I used to pull them up from an early age if they spoke slang, or what i call lazy talk, its not hard to do, but chav parents speak like they are from the Bronx ,so what hope do the kids have?

rayheartbliss 21-08-2012 12:40 PM

its true.

fair enough if they are actually from the streets and are uneducated.

but you get the ones who have been in college even had degrees from uni and pretty much lived their childhood as middle class citizens, yet at some point out of nowhere starts talking like they lived in the ghetto. #cringe
