The Office (overrated though), Extras, and his podcast(though mostly due to Karl Pilkington) were good everything else he's done has been terrible

Benjamin 17-10-2012 11:10 PM

Ricky G is an unfunny douchebag.

Shaun 18-10-2012 01:24 AM

hating Ricky Gervais is basically either

a) falling for his act
b) a massive sign of stupidity

he's the greatest British comedy writer of the 21st century. Fact. And anyone who didn't even get a small laugh out of his stints hosting the Golden Globes is lying to themselves.

Mystic Mock 18-10-2012 01:30 AM

Ricky Gervais just isn't funny imo, and his version of The Office is so painful that I can't give any other version a chance.

Hmm wouldn't go as far as saying he's the greatest of the 21st century. And I did enjoy him grilling the uppity celebs at golden globes but majority of the time it was more ohhh  no he di' nt! Rather than ROFLMAO

Marc 18-10-2012 08:36 AM

Hero.

Ricky Gervais, much like Frankie Boyle, makes me laugh and he makes me cringe too. What I don't get is the adoration of Ricky Gervais on this thread, and the absolute screaming hatred of Frankie Boyle on another. On the Frankie Boyle thread people are moaning that he ridicules disabled people. Ricky Gervais freely uses the word 'mong' and is unapologetic. Frankie Boyle is branded a racist while Ricky Gervais gets a laugh out of the Holocaust. They're cut from the same cloth, so I don't understand how one is worse than the other.

Agree with this. He's a comedy genius.

I disagree with that. Yeah, Gervais might have a few questionable jokes but not the majority of his stuff imo and certainly not his TV shows. Not that I have a "screaming hatred" for Frankie Boyle anyway, I find him unfunny and the majority of stuff seems to be tasteless drivel.

I like The Office, but other than that what has he done that's so memorable?

I don't like Extras. I think he's ok, but he's not my favourite comedian.

I honestly cannot stand him. I find nothing about him funny whatsoever. His writing is creative, that I'll give you that.

Vanessa 18-10-2012 10:05 AM

I prefer Lee Evans and Michael McEntire.

ricky is well overated as a stand up act,
the office was very funny beacuse it was fresh,it had lots of other great charachters.
ricky in the company of karl pilkington and stephen merchant, also works due to the comedy energy between them.
without the office we would not even be talking about rickygervais.

That's just your opinion though, I loved Extras, maybe even a bit more than The Office

Maybe "screaming hatred" was a little strong LOL...

From a personal point of view I found Gervais's Holocaust jokes extremely tasteless. I suppose it depends on your point of view what's funny and what's not. There is no right answer.

Yes of course it was, I'm not going to defend him on that one, I do believe somethings shouldn't be joked about, but in general I do find him funny
