No, not at all.

I don't believe in God.

Shaun 22-10-2012 05:49 PM

LOL @ "science can't explain everything"

Got to wonder how much science you're aware of before coming to that conclusion.

(no i'm not religious)

I like to consider myself a Christian, but I have this massive doubt as to whether there is a God and although I try to tell myself I believe in it, deep down I don't think I do.

So you're not really a Christian at all then are you?

bbfan1991 22-10-2012 05:53 PM

I respect other peoples religions, although I do not want to be converted if that makes sense LOL. RE was probably my favourite subject at school so it explains why different cultures intrigue me etc.

Redway 22-10-2012 05:56 PM

Even the ones with outright sickening and hypocritical attitudes towards minority groups?

Kazanne 22-10-2012 05:59 PM

I am religious,i do not let it rule my life, but i believe.

Mystic Mock 22-10-2012 06:02 PM

I believe in a God, but I don't really have a particular Religion that I follow as I don't believe in there views.

Tbf Science can't that is a fact.

Shaun 22-10-2012 06:12 PM

You can't go around claiming that science "doesn't know certain stuff" when you "don't know stuff" either. You're confusing the theoretical aspect of science with total darkness. The recent and future investigations into the Higgs Boson particle and further discoveries may well prove final answers. To dismiss that because it's not been done yet is not only impatient but incredibly self-centred and naive.

Mystic Mock 22-10-2012 06:14 PM

Fair enough Shaun, just at this moment in time it hasn't explained how the Universe started.

Lee. 22-10-2012 06:16 PM

No, I'm an atheist.

I do respect people's religions though.

Shaun 22-10-2012 06:16 PM

No of course, I know what you mean :D

But surely if there's not much evidence in favour of either side of the argument you can't really choose one when there's just as much evidence for the other (in fact probably even more)? Works both ways. :p

Identical to what I'm currently going through. Catholic--> Agnostic --> Severe Doubt

Well it's sort of like I'm halfway in, halfway out. I tell myself God exists but another part of me nags away, pointing out how preposterous it seems. But then I don't really want to accept that because atheism is such a bleak thing.

Livia 22-10-2012 06:38 PM

Yes... but I don't kick the arse out of it. I'm not interested in converting people... people's religious views are very much their own business I reckon.

It's not bleak at all!! I believe if you live your life with good morals and happiness and live in your heart, you don't need religion. What's so bleak about that?

Because it means accepting that death is the end and that there truly is nothing after you die. That thought utterly terrifies me. I don't really want to accept that.

And if the idea that there's nothing after death isn't bleak, then I don't know what is.

I was christened as a child though and never 'renounced' or anything, not sure if you are meant to.

My baby will be christened too (gav wants it done as his other 3 are christened), but I want as little to do with it as possible. Obviously I will need to be there, but thats as far as it goes for me, gav can arrange it all and that.

Well if you don't believe in it in the first place then renouncing shouldn't be necessary imo

I was brought up a Catholic but don't consider myself to be one now, I suppose if I was to consider myself anything it would be agnostic

The belief of being nothing when it's all over. That bleakness perhaps. It's one of the reasons I hold Final Fantasy VII in high regard, because of the idea of the lifeforce and being simply transformed back into the energy that drives it all. Not so bleak.

I have no problem with accepting the atheist approach to death. You live and then you die ... YOLO and all that.
