Why does it matter what the packaging looks like, it's the stuff inside the packaging that should be changed.

Down Under

Ramsay 01-12-2012 03:56 PM

Its not going to reduce smoking, people will continue to smoke no matter whats on the packets

Kizzy 01-12-2012 03:58 PM

Why not ban smoking?
Have nicotine gum or lozengers if you are addicted...
The government could tax them instead?
win win :joker:

It's no joke....
If you want nicotine, and non smokers don't want your toxins then it's a brilliant idea actually.

Its not me
its the Future.

Smokers will still be
but in their private homes only.

So you do not need to worry

So you would even ban it in the comfort of their own homes, where no one can complain about inhaling their toxins?

The reason it affects me is because I hate seeing my friends smoke themselves away, but you are right. Last night I said 'do it if you wish, I'm going to stop going on, just cut the 'I'm going to quit' bull-**** please'.

And I don't think it's right for them to be packaged this way, you don't see a person with liver disease displayed on a bottle of vodka. People will smoke no matter what the packaging, they care about what's in the box.

Exactly. What if they don't?

Kizzy 01-12-2012 05:02 PM

Why all the what if's?
If cigarettes ceased to exist and in their place was an alternative that satisfied your craving would you be happy to use the substitute?
No more feeling anti-social standing outside the party?
No more yellow fingers?
I think it's a brill idea :)

Livia 01-12-2012 05:17 PM

Lots of people die on the roads every year and the toxic fumes from cars is deadly perhaps we should think about banning them. What's more, the driver, like the smoker, is taxed to the hilt already. Maybe we should produce bottles of wine carrying pictures of livers with sclerosis and mutilated accident victims after a drunk driver has hit them. Why stop at smokers?

It's amusing that some people are all for government intervention and dictation when it suits their own agenda.

Nicotine gum is hardly likely to give smokers the same feeling that they would get through smoking a cigarette, nor would any other of these crappy, ineffective alternatives.

As I've said over and over again on this thread: IT'S NONE OF YOUR BUSINESS.

And if you're willing to make smoking illegal would you support throwing someone in prison just because they want to put a bit of nicotine into their system? Because if you do then your logic is totally flawed and I actually can't take you seriously.

The Future will be

I'm sensing a little friction here....
It was simply a suggestion.
hybrid cars I thought were the new generation?
All things adapt and change with the times.

arista 01-12-2012 05:47 PM

"I'm sensing a little friction here"

Yes As Smokers are hooked
and you are boxing them away.

I am just saying they can still Smoke in Private only.

The pubs could adapt too and have filters in them instead of an outright ban :pipe: There's literally no smoke at all in the room.

AnnieK 01-12-2012 07:55 PM

To be honest, when I was a smoker, I would have bought cigs packaged in anything, the pictures on them already were pretty bad....I have never heard anyone buying a brand because they had pretty packaging....seems ridiculous to me....why would it stop anyone??

It's all to make people think they're actually doing something about people smoking. When in reality it's just a massive waste of time and very pointless.
