Yes, that's true. It's not like the Centre would say, oh it doesn't matter, don't worry about it. But a stupid, thoughtless thing to say.

Create controversy, then create the outrage to keep it going.

This. It was an insensitive thing to day on her part, and she obviously deserved to be warned about it, but it should end there to avoid turning it into a media circus!

flamingGalah! 07-01-2013 09:38 AM

It may be a bit insensitive, but I don't really think it is offensive...

Ammi 07-01-2013 09:42 AM

..I think it is offensive but I'm going to assume that she said it without putting thought into it, so I agree it was right to give her a warning and point that out to her, so she realises the stupidity of what she said..but I also think the media etc should accept it wasn't said with intent..and not sensationalise it to the point that she gets hatred for it....

Jake. 07-01-2013 09:43 AM

If she gets a warning for that then Rylan should get one for farting

I agree with everything you have said there, Ammi.

Well I think both are just as ridiculous. It's like this country has just forgotten all about context when it comes to this kind of stuff. And getting a spokesperson from the holocaust survivors centre is just pathetic. Creating controversy from something which shouldn't be controversial. Yes, BB have the right to give her a tap on the wrist, but that's as far as it should go.

thesheriff443 07-01-2013 12:28 PM

it was the wrong thing to say!
people need to learn to slow their mouths down so their brains can catch up!.

Petershaw1984 07-01-2013 12:34 PM

But what intent did she mean?

Not really - just don't compare the BB basement to the most notorious murder factory in modern history.

It's quite a simple rule to follow.

Whereas Paula's context is spot on?

Exactly! What she said was stupid, but not in context with what is being portrayed.

What is the correct context for her remark?

Jake. 07-01-2013 12:46 PM

In my view, it's a bit like someone saying 'it's bloody freezing out here, I feel like I'm going to catch hypothermia'. Of course they aren't going to, and they aren't meaning to offend anyone either. It's just a rushed, stupid comment which wasn't meant to cause harm.

You know that's not what jake was implying there, jesus.

..I do respect you don't have the same views on this Jake..I presume you have no Jewish ancestors, you may feel differently if you did..but you have to respect that other people have strong feelings about what she said and for very good reason..I do agree that I don't believe it was said with any intent and was just a thoughtless thing to say without realising how disrespectful or offensive it was..but it doesn't make it any less said..once it's out there. it's out there..isn't that how it goes...so BBs action were appropriate and having someone from the centre to explain things will make her think more carefully next time, for her own sake as well as I'm sure she doesn't want to be offensive....but now that it's done, I hope the media let it go as well and don't try to make her a figure of hatred.....

I think asking him to clarify his point isn't particularly controversial. Jake was on about context, I asked him to provide it.

Actually I do have Jewish ancestors, my Grandad's Jewish :). I agree that my first comment was stupid (about it being similar to Rylan farting), and I take that back. But, as you said, you can tell that it was said with no intent.. why would she go out of her way to offend a religious group? And yes, BB had a right to give her a telling off, but I don't think that the centre should have been involved... In my view, once that starts, so does the rest of the witch hunt. And the last bit of your post is exactly why I think that the group shouldn't have been involved with a statement.

Yeah, I'm sure she meant in a fairly flippant, inoffensive way, but BB are not out of order to tell her to be more careful.

The stupidity comes from contacting the survivors group for comment.

It's not really a massive issue.
