If it was an animal which I truly loved (like my dogs in the past) then I'd put more thought in to it. But an 11 year old cat does not have the same value as a human who has a mother, father, children and whatever else

The person you're saving could be a killer!

Yes, or he/she could be the nicest person to have walked the earth, we just don't know :p

To be fair, that argument works both ways. The vast majority of humans have no problem/s with the killing and eating of animals, so I'm sure the same principle would apply here to many.

Saving your pet over somebody who could have children, parents, siblings, a wife/husband, and their whole life ahead them is in my opinion disgusting, disturbing and selfish

I do slightly agree with this, although the bond that some have with their pets is a very strong one, I know some who are closer to their pets than humans

It's a bit different when it hits closer to home though. If you were to substitute the animal for a close friend/family member, would you honestly rather save the stranger than those you know well?

It depends on the situation. Although I'd be going through so much pain, I also know what the strangers family and friends would be going through. If it boiled down to it though, I'd end up saving the person close to me.

I would still make that sacrifice though, I know it would be a hard one but in the end of the day it's the right thing to do. Humans have longer lives and have much more to live for so they're way more valuable

On yeah I would, was just saying I can see why some would have more of a problem doing it

Glenn. 26-02-2013 05:55 PM

I would save my dog over anyone :idc:

joeysteele 26-02-2013 06:38 PM

I really love my Dog and I also know if I was in trouble or unconscious he would alert someone to my plight if he could.
I would have to save my pet first, however I would do all I could to save both if it was in any way humanly possible to do so.

But that pet could have children, parents, siblings, a mate and could have it's whole life ahead of it - why isn't killing that disturbing? And who's to judge what has more to live for anyway?

I would save the person's life rather than my pets. As much as I like my pets, they are just animals

we're just animals

MTVN 26-02-2013 08:58 PM

Hard one, human lives are more valuable than animals but I have more attachment to my cat than I do a random person, which might make me want to save my cat if the situation arose even though it'd be very selfish

Apple202 26-02-2013 09:00 PM

Why are human's lives worth more than that of animals? :conf: I don't get this perception
