It wasn't the soldiers who made the decision it was the government. He just did as he was told.

This is entirely my point too, as I said this is shocking due to the randomness of the attack but will it be enough to have an impact on British foreign policy? No.

I know, that's what I mean though; soldiers are the muscle for the government and so aggression was taken out on this one particular soldier, even though he himself hadn't done anything to warrant being so violently murdered by complete strangers. These men who committed this crime are deranged and should be punished accordingly, there is no disputing that. I think, though, people are becoming intolerant of Muslims as a group when it's not their fault that there are some mentally unhinged people committing brutal crimes, who happen to be Muslim, saying they're doing it because of their faith. Are the Westboro Baptist Church representative of all Christians? No. I just think there's a decreasing level of tolerance for Islam in the UK and it's because of insane people, not the Islamic religion, causing that.

ummm, you're making it sound like it's the EDL that are saying that these "unhinged people" are doing it in the name of Islam... NO, it is those people themselves who themselves say they are doing it because of ISLAM. The EDL isn't making that up.

Why is it that you are willing to listen to them about the fact that they are unhappy about the wars, but when they say they do it because of Islam, then you shut that part out?

They are SPECIFICALLY saying that they do it BECAUSE of ISLAM.

Why arn't you listening to them? You expect us to listen to their message about the wars, and the wrong caused by British troops in Iraq or Afghanistan, but you're not listening to them saying they want to impose the Sharia law on all of the UK. Saying they want to create a WAR on the streets of London.

The Westboro Baptist Church has never killed or physically hurt anyone. So that is a ridiculous comparisson to make. It's ridiculous to compare some nutters with signs to beheading someone in the middle of a street. Westboro baptist church is like Peta protests, nothing at all like ISLAMIC JIHADISTS.

There are plenty of Muslims out on the streets just as crazy as Westboro baptist church saying things against gays, and worse things. And it's fine to criticize westboro baptist church, but when you criticize muslims, ohhh, then yur a racist. well no, you're not. The double standard is sickening.

I didn't say that the EDL invented any of these claims, the claims came from those men themselves. The EDL however is an Islamophobic organisation, which in my opinion just adds to the problem that these crazy people have created. They want to get rid of all Islamic people, when it's only a small minority who seemingly hate the UK. I don't understand most of your post though... I'm not shutting anything out? Or if I am, I don't understand what you think I'm ignoring? I don't expect us to listen to their views, that is absolutely not what I am saying at all! I think that we have to understand WHY they did what they did, instead of just blaming all Muslim people for what they did, which is what the EDL are doing, and which is what this thread is hinting at. I just think we ought to respond to extreme hate, not with more extreme hate in kind, but understanding at the very least. I used the Westboro Baptist Church as an example of an extremist Christian group. I could have used the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints as an example instead; whose leader was convicted of sexual assault on children. Again, it's not brutal murder, it's just for the example of extremist groups acting in the name of religion. They do not represent everyone of the Christian faith any more than two insane men carving up an innocent soldier declaring war on the UK represent Islam. Crazy people don't respect post codes or faiths, they need to be helped or locked away; but tarring everyone with the same brush because of the actions of a few is wrong, and if you think that that makes me some kind of sympathiser, then that's your prerogative. I just like to try and see both sides to things like this.
