Much as I can't stand him, his disbelief wasn't that she was going out at 14. He said later that what she was saying contradicted something she'd told him before. In other words, she most likely screwed up and admitted she'd been unfaithful to her gf of 6 years, so tried to backpedal and say all the things she'd talked about happened when she was 14.
We never saw the previous conversation that made him question her timeline, but she doesn't know that. In her head, it was probably going round and round that she'd just confessed to cheating.
