When i'm cleaning I usually start with hovering the floor. Then I do the rest. You could put some music on for motivation.

..did you do a room Mizzy..?..I think whichever room you start on, once you see it looking how you want it to and feeling good about it, it'll make you want to do the others as well...

mizzy25 25-09-2013 07:06 PM

Just having a break as Im too hot. Ive started on my bedroom Im getting there. Everything is off the floor and its all been polished and dirty washing away etc. I haven't hovered yet as I leave that till last. Im doing the wardrobe now. Ive got a fair bit of stuff for charity I normally get a bag a week but you watch Il get none for months now lol. There is a place @ asda you can donate clothes etc though. Anyway once Ive done wardrobe Il go onto drawers I know Ive got stacks of pjs that are no good as they are too short, always have been but there they are crammed into the drawers. Well my break over see u all soon.

..you've done so well Mizzy..although you're probably exhausted, do you feel great with how it looks and what you've done..?...

King Gizzard 25-09-2013 08:12 PM

mizzy you are my hero

mizzy25 25-09-2013 08:22 PM

Yes I am exhausted and have had to stop for tonight. Ive got an idea of putting the plastic drawers inside the white wardrobe in the spare room as there is a shelf missing, so looks like its going to be that room next. Why do I accumulate so much junk/crap? My mate who is like uber clean & tidy asked me what do I mean? Well I have make-up. odd ear rings, jewellery, 100s of odd socks, books, magazines, I seem to have a lot of gaviscon sachets (I get a lot of indigestion) and lots of paracetamol packets, hand creams (ive got excema on my hands) It just seems I have lots of junk lol I did a huge sort out of make - up not so long ago and gave it away but still I have loads. I wouldn't care but I barely wear it lol

Me too. I need to sort out my dvds. I have so many. :joker:

I love sorting through stuff. I find it quite therapeutic, puts me in a good frame of mind.

I bought a few storage boxes from amazon over the summer and cleared my room. It's never looked so organised.

I hate holding onto stuff I have no use for though, I can't collect crap.

mizzy25 25-09-2013 08:38 PM

I seem to collect crap all the time lol Each xmas I get things I either don't like, have no use for or they don't fit, But to be polite I thank whoever bought them for me and then they get put away generally in the plastic drawers I had to buy due to the accumulation of crap and they stay there, just incase the person that bought it actually comes to my house.... NOBODY ever comes to my house I have 7 dogs lol

mizzy25 25-09-2013 08:39 PM

I also seem to have way too many toiletries again in the plastic drawers!

I think you just need to sling the plastic drawers in the bin complete with contents. :joker: Why do we buy containers to put stuff in that we never use...one of lifes mysteries.

mizzy25 25-09-2013 09:02 PM

I havnt had them very long so Im not throwing them out lol

Marsh. 25-09-2013 09:08 PM

True. If you didn't have the drawers, it might force you to put stuff straight in the bin.

Well Mizzy did you finish one room? and how does it look

Kizzy 26-09-2013 10:41 AM

Wow mizzy, you've shocked me here lol!
I have to say I went through a similar stage in my 30's funnily enough as at the time I was very depressed.
I always now try to keep up with the mantra 'tidy house tidy mind' haha!
Organisation is the key and storage, I bought lots of stacking plastic boxes and containers of various sizes, pretty covered boxes for my room, expanding files for paperwork. As well as a sideboard, under sink unit, bookcase, blanket box and shoe storage unit.
Be really ruthless,as yourself 'do I love it, do I need it will it make me money?' if no get rid! Old towels, bedding, curtains and clothes you haven't worn for over a year charity shop or boxed labelled and in the loft if you can't bear to part with old toys/ ornaments, or have a boot sale?
You will feel amazing once you've done it, even if it takes weeks to do it seems you have a very positive mindset to even want to tackle it... good for you mizzy :D

My house is a mess :p I am on an ongoing project to sort it out. I get so far, then it slips back...ah well.

My problem is that there are two major things I need to concentrate on in the short term: my PhD and the house. The house needs sorting because my landlord is not coming anywhere near here til I've done so and the bathroom window has sprung a leak, so every time there's a heavy rainfall it's coming through the frame. This needs dealing with.

I need to repaint the fireplace and a few other bits of woodwork where Carrotchops did a deal of damage during the latter stages of puppyhood. I also need to repaper the kitchen (same reason). But I need to clean and sort first.

I also need to get a decent amount of my thesis written and sent into my supervisor for him to have a glance. This is more important than the house, so I don't do the house because I am 'working on my PhD'. But, I am procrastinating and not actually doing that.

I get so overwhelmed by the totality, I end up doing nothing at all.

So my new rule is: if I am not working on my PhD I must work on the house. One or the other.

Yesterday I did the kitchen (hurrah!). This afternoon I am working on my PhD for realz.

I have a similar problem to Mizzy. My desk at work is spotless but my house can get untidy, not dirty but things are sometimes just thrown into the cupboard instead of being placed into the cupboard. For myself, I have to clear up as soon is there is a mess so that it doesnt get too much. As for where to start with a messy house, just do an hour a day till you';ve got it under control then try and keep the mess down,

Kizzy 26-09-2013 11:51 AM

Good for you dana :D
I bet you get a lot more done after your kitchen blitz, it really helps... can't explain why but it somehow lifts you out of a 'fug'
doing it is mentally exausting and frustrating as it seems to take hours to do very little, but once it's done it's liberating haha!
Ensuring it stays 'doable' in a reasonable length of time is a must too... who wants to waste time cleaning? :)
( Unless you're being paid £10ph to do it obv eh mizz? ;)

Record your programmes and watch later .That way you can clean the house, then sit back with a nice glass of wine and admire your lovely clean home.

Start in the most popular room, leave the least until last :D
