The reason that Princess Anne made her comments is that horses are not covered by the same legislation as livestock. That was the whole point!

You think all farmers are cruel? And you believe there is no legislation in place to minimise this? And that there are no consequences when these cases are brought to light? There are consequences including fines and imprisonment. No one's turning a blind eye, and having someone in the public eye try to start a debate is a good thing.

I eat meat Kaz, but I do try and find out where it is from.
I want to eat happy meat. Pork has to be outdoor bred, free range chickens etc.
Pay a bit more but just eat a bit less of it.
The least we can do if we are going to eat it is give it a happy life.

I am not against meat eaters smudgie and I agree that as long as they have been treated well there is nothing wrong with it,it's just when you read those awful stories of them being beaten and having wicked things done to them, that makes me angry as there is just no need for it,If only more people were like you smudgie:hugesmile:

I have absolutely NO IDEA why Princess Anne chose to make the comments she made. Unless she was on an earner from Lord Tesco, and was trying to retrospectively redeem Tesco's sullied reputation.

No, you really do have no idea.

Pointless.

Ignore.

So, what's your case for the welfare of the horse?
You want to introduce horse meat into the English diet, and by doing that improve the welfare of horses. If you succeeded all you'd get would be horses bread in England for meat.

Disgusting. It's comments like this that we've come to expect from the pampered, out of touch Royal Family.

How does her proposal reduce cruelty to horses? That is my issue here. Her mother has cleaned up her act with her retired race hoses after being exposed. Will this weird idea of hers suddenly make the rest follow suit? I doubt it. Just what exactly does she mean? Livestock in the food market are abused. I've been around farmers long enough to know that.
