If it doesn't happen on the forum, it'll happen somewhere else and the moaners will moan even more, so the private sub forum makes sense to me.. However, I can't see it happening :(

smeagol 24-11-2013 04:06 PM

all things should be open i dont believe in private sections if others are being talked about.
keep all things in the open i say. why anyone would argue over these things is beyond me but nothing surprised me here anymore lol
you may nominate me as worst person here i wont be offended i,ll just kill myself lol

Glenn. 24-11-2013 04:07 PM

Everyone being 'talked about' will be in the sub forum

Well the others wouldn't be discussed since they'd have opted out...

So you can only be "talked about" if you "opt in"?? sounds weird!

I doubt it would work tbf.

Jack_ 24-11-2013 04:29 PM

It's quite simple.

You have either an opt-out or opt-in list as per usual, a private sub forum is created viewable to members only, and then that gets narrowed down to those who have either opted in or haven't opted out.

Discussion of the awards is only permitted within the sub forum, in any other section of TiBB and those members are infracted/banned.

That way it's doing none of these so-called 'problems':

1) Putting new members off of joining, because they won't be able to see the awards
2) Causing arguments and drama in other areas of the forum
3) Causing arguments/drama at all really, considering those who are opting in or who haven't opted out understand it's all light hearted fun

And most importantly, those who have opted out, or haven't opted in are required to fulfil their requested obligation of not participating. Quite simply, if you wish to distance yourself from the awards, then you have no business commenting on them at all. Your name can't be mentioned anyway seeing as you've opted out, so those people should just be able to get on with their business in other areas of the forum, and leave those who wish to participate alone, just as they wished in the first place.

That's it. The simple solution.

Don't knock it 'till you try it.

fingers 24-11-2013 04:31 PM

I won't bother, thank you!

MTVN 24-11-2013 04:33 PM

Well Matt has said he wouldn't have an opt in system so that couldn't work. And the normal rules would still have to apply if there was a private sub forum

Plus not all the categories are specific member ones, even those who opted out would probably end up being included in some way in the awards for most controversial moments, threads etc. and those are the awards are the ones that cause the most drama on here because it leads people to revisit them all and bring up again all the tensions they created

Yeah I know how it works! Just wondering if enough people would be bothered to opt in to make it a worthwhile exercise. I seem to remember people who only post in the BB section getting quite a few noms last time round so the Razzies did encompass quite a number of forum members not just a few!

Stu 24-11-2013 05:21 PM

Have it properly or don't have it at all. Main forum, no watered down pussyfooting opt out option, arguments inevitably caused - a solid two hours entertainment - and then deleted. Go to sleep, wake up and life goes on. View it if you want, don't view it if you don't want. Boogeymen on the internet might talk mean about you. Sob.

No compromises. What's the fucking point?

Benjamin 24-11-2013 05:26 PM

I'm going to say this. If attracting new members and not putting them off is such a BIG issue why is nothing being done about the actual forum to encourage greater numbers of new users? For example this site hasn't been updated in so long, I even ran a competition for a new forum skin to make it look a bit more up to date/modern in which some members went out of their way to design stuff and yet nothing has come of it still to this day.

T* 24-11-2013 05:27 PM

This is the most logical solution, we need to do this!

Those were the days :(

Josy 24-11-2013 05:44 PM

Cuda give it a rest and stop trying to bring an argument from another thread into this one.

I think Jack's suggestion is great. I for one would opt in. It's not ideal but of course times change and sometimes we need to adapt to new circumstances.
