I've just checked and I've got to be honest I don't really see much there.

Sarah Millican is my all time favourite.

I've been trying to remember for ages who wrote this piece... I've just found it.
I think he explains it pretty well :) http://www.vanityfair.com/culture/fe...hitchens200701 |

Whilst on the subject of Josies who are funny and make us laugh, this is Josie Long and she's one of my fave comedians.

I'll definitely check that out. |
there are no funny female stand up comics, and females in general are not as funny as men
|
Miranda Hart is hilarious
|
..I'm not sure they're any less funny than males in stand-up..there aren't many male stand-ups that are funny either..but females like Kristen Wiig are funny with well written lines in movies etc...stand-up in general is just awful/nothing original...
|
ammi that's nonsense :nono: there're plenty of awesome stand-ups... Eddie Izzard, Richard Pryor, Billy Connolly, Tommy Cooper, Bill Hicks, Bill Bailey, Stewart Lee, Louis CK, Patrice O'Neal, Doug Stanhope, Woody Allen, Omid Djalili (although once you've seen one set, you've seen them all)
granted, not many today, but to say stand-up in general is awful is pretty silly. i dunno if women are more suited to writing comedy than actually performing it in this format... there're plenty of good examples of great comic writers that're female (Wiig, Fey, Poehler, Brand, french + saunders, perkins + giedroyc, mccarthy...) |
..yeah, but a lot of those are 'old style'..and there isn't any really original ones anymore, I don't think..to me, it's almost a generic formula of stand up..I remember going to see Billy Connolly and I was literally crying, but there is no one who would make me do that anymore..of the 'current' ones...not in a stand up, anyway/movies can still do that...
..but with the female ones, some tend to base a lot of their stand up on typically female things rather than general human nature things so they immediately exclude some audience because males don't relate to that..and not all females do either..well, they do but it isn't necessarily something they find funny in stand up...same old, same old.... |
..oh and also, with Richard Prior/Eddie Izzard..(who I adore...)..a lot of it is 'visual' and I can't think of any female comedians who are so good at that..
|
It's cos whenever I see a woman on stage I expect her to take her clothes off.
|
men only laugh at a woman's jokes if they are trying to get in their knickers or if they want their dinner cooked.
