This, I know that my hatred for Country Music might make me sound biased but Carrie Underwood is not as successful as Kelly Clarkson because away from the US, Country Music is quite unpopular so therefore Kelly will win that battle for that reason alone.

Yea, but still being a big fish in a small pond, is still being a big fish... like heavy metal in northern Europe. i hate death metal, but i respect that fact that northern Europe loves metal and some bands are HUGE over there.

Kelly is a big fish in a big pond though. Carrie is a big fish in a small pond.

Kelly Clarkson's a mid sized fish in a big pond; Carrie is a big fish in a small pond. Both are really successful and have achieved way more than anyone would have ever thought possible and I think have shaken off their talent show roots and been accepted as stars in their own right - just depends on whether you view global relevance or national relevance as being the bigger success - because although Kelly's popular around the world, she's not in the same league as the likes of Beyonce or Rihanna in terms of success so it's not like she's the biggest star going, but she's been going for over a decade with no signs of slowing down which is quite impressive. Carrie Underwood meanwhile is a huge star in a genre that may only be popular in the USA but just calling it popular is doing country music a disservice... it's huge.

mid-sized fish, I like that. :joker:

I'd say she's a big fish talent, with a mid-sized fish celebrity.

That's what sets her apart, she isn't a huge CELEBRITY, but she is a huge TALENT, and i think that's why she is able to keep chugging along, without having to worry about being in the press all the time. She's not worried about always getting the most attention, she's just grateful to be able to keep making music and performing.

Yeah definitely. She's up there with the P!nks of this world, the talent and the vision is what determines career longevity, not who she's dating or what she's wearing to an awards ceremony. There are two types of popstar - those who are in it for the fame and those that are in it for the artistry and she clearly falls into the latter category.

Carrie is constantly touring & more people want to see her live rather than Kelly

probably just FOX news watching mothers and fathers who's daughters really wanna see Miley Cyrus, but they think taking them to see Carrie Underwood is the good Christian alternative... ugh.

And that's great; that just means she's milking her fanbase for what it's worth because she's generally got a fixed geographical area and target audience to constantly tour around; Kelly's globally popular so she has to spread her resources much thinner than Carrie does. I don't think there's much merit in comparing them anyway, they're totally different kinds of artists who have different fanbases and different styles.

after watching American Horror Story: Coven finale, it made me think about what my afterlife heaven would be... (besides the obvious abercrombie models to ****** )... it would be Kelly Clarkson (sorry misty and stevie) and Chicken Mcnuggets i think. (with honey mustard dipping sauce)

i wish we were friends, we could go to kelly shows together :)

I'd love to see her live, but i'd never go alone.

Smithy 03-02-2014 03:38 PM

I'm like that too, i had to drag another friend to her show in london too

she did When It Don't Come Easy there, cause it was her backing singers last night on tour with her and they were starting a career separate to her, they all started tearing up at the end

lostalex 03-02-2014 03:41 PM

i'm so jealous. I bet you were here...

Smithy 03-02-2014 03:42 PM

lostalex 03-02-2014 03:43 PM

I'd love to hear Kelly cover a Sheryl Crow song. Do you like Sheryl Crow?
