I like talk on my phone

Marsh. 05-02-2014 09:26 PM

I used to always get nervous when I first got a job in an office.

I think it was more talking on the phone with half the office watching and listening.
When I was asked to make a few calls I'd go to the toilet to try and calm down a bit first because my heart would be racing. Lol

But I'm much better now. :D Customers ranting down the phone whilst you frantically try to track down information on a computer that just won't do what you want it to gives good experience.

I enjoy talking on my phone when I have the time to, I find with texting I would only use that to say when I was likely arriving somewhere or that I was busy and would call the person back.
I am in the main a face to face person however and love talking to people in person.

Yeah I think that's what bothers me the most about phone calls, people listening in and judging me because I'm aware that I'm a bit nervous on the phone so knowing people are listening only makes it worse. It's surprisingly common I've found... I wonder why? Is it a modern phenomenon to be scared of the phone or have people always been scared of the phone since it came into wide usage?

I remember reading some interesting article about the rise and development in technology being responsible for increased anxieties and fears.

Our bodies are designed to naturally react to certain noises and in certain situations and suddenly all these gadgets, artificial noises/objects, hustle and bustle, busy roads and everything that comes with modern life can stress us and confuse our brains without realising it and we develop all kinds of irrational fears and disorders. And how we find it harder to disconnect from it all.

I've tried to find the link with no luck.

That sounds pretty spot on IMO!

GypsyGoth 05-02-2014 10:24 PM

I don't answer it.

HD 05-02-2014 10:25 PM

I glare at it, prod it, then rock back n forth until it stops ringing.

Drew. 05-02-2014 10:26 PM

I dont mind it too much.. it's much easier talking to someone over the phone rather than 1 on 1 with someone whilst they stare straight at you.

Jack_ 05-02-2014 10:28 PM

Nope, I don't mind if it's close family cause it's just easy then, anyone else though just no - I actually don't answer friends calls (unless I'm drunk then idc for some reason, and will make calls oddly enough too) and make up excuses instead.

I've been meaning to call Orange up for about three months now to get my phone unlocked because I ordered a new sim but that's a reaaaally awkward conversation I'd have to have, they're apparently notoriously difficult with getting them to actually do it and well yeah

I also hate talking on the phone when other people are listening D: I think that's probably part of the fear actually, if I'm on my own I think I'd be alright answering calls but with people in the house or in the room in other places just no...

lostalex 05-02-2014 10:31 PM

if thou can't talk on the telephone, you have no personality.

Marsh. 05-02-2014 10:31 PM

I hate calling phone companies too.

It took me nearly an hour to cancel my contract with 3 because an Indian woman had endless offers and questions before she'd bloody get on with it.

The number of times I repeated "No, I'm not interested in anything other than cancelling my contract. THAT'S ALL I WANT TO DO!"

Apple202 05-02-2014 11:09 PM

dont mind doing it to friends, but if i have the chance ill do stuff like order takeaways online just so i know there wont be any errors

I mean it in a sort of it's easy to correct yourself face to face sort of way, if you **** up on the phone then there's no coming back from it, you just get all mumbled up and the other person is probably impatient because they have no idea who you are

lostalex 06-02-2014 12:18 AM

i want to talk to my friends. if you think you are my friend, call me. 510 866 8624 (international code for America is 1)

i doubt anyone i think is my friend will call me on here. I'm just as alone as i suspect i am.

My first name is Daniel, but i've always gone by my middle name, Alexander. my grandfather's name. My mom always intended me to be an Alex, but my father's family insisted on me be named after their side. I've always been called Alex for as long as i can remember though.

Daniel Alexander.

satisfied? now call me.

Josy 06-02-2014 12:31 AM

I shall be calling you Daniel from now on Daniel.
