So many make such a big deal and drama about coming out. Enjoyed shugging my shoulders and saying "so what" years ago when a snivelling crybaby attention seeking fellow Uni student cried came out in a dramatic pseudo tortured fashion. Refused to give him the attention he pathetically was seeking.

Straight people don't even come out, but gays have a whole process " coming out " which makes them very very different to straight people, gay pride events ( seeing a man's flabby arse peeping through a pair of chaps at a gay pride pride was revolting), campness. Gays should just blend in and stop banging on and on an on and on and on ad nauseum about being gay.

I think you should call them "the gays" it puts even more distance between them and yourself and at the same time lumps them all together even more as one big Alan Carr.

Kind of agree with him on the Gay pride events thing, anything rainbow related is just a cringefest, its more normal to just blend like everyone else then to put on shows like that, don't really know what good it does for gays rather then put them in the spotlight for people to take the piss

I don't think gay people necessarily want to be seen as "normal" since there is no "normal". Heterosexuality will always be seen as normal because it's what the majority of people are, there's just no point in trying to hide away sexuality to try and fit in.

It's a bit like blaming rape victims for leading on rapists - the ****ty attitude of those who laugh at pride events is what's the problem. I get that the most vocal and loud and crazy divas get the most attention (because of course they do, they stand out) but most pride events aren't about crossdressing and putting on parades.

And besides, most of those who are in drag, or in leather, are mostly paying tribute to the underground clubs of the 70s and 80s who were rioting and literally dying for our rights, so it's more of a sign of respect and celebration than, I dunno, what they actually act like.

...and in addition to that; not everyone who attends gay pride events are gay. Straight people do too.

But obviously it's okay to ignore that because they're the normal ones and they don't want the spotlight.

I'm not entirely surprised I have to say, but if he does come out then good on him. It's a brave an admirable thing to do.

You have absolutely no concept of the pressure someone coming out is feeling nor will you ever have to experience that, so I suggest you keep your trap shut. That goes doubly for when public figure does it because ultimately it isn't for your attention, but as a message to queer youth out there going through a similar struggle and to encourage them to push forward and through it.

And yes of course blending in is the right answer, because of course we can only be gay on your terms right? It's not as if we as a group have a right to be whoever we want to be like you guys already have done throughout history? ****ing moron.

the replies I get just because I question the impact of Gay pride events.. If I'm an idiot for having an opinion that parades do more harm then good then so be it. in this part of the Country being gay seems normal and accepted and people are proud without putting on ott shows.

In a society where heterosexuality is the overwhelming norm, having pride events gives us a chance to celebrate ourselves in the majority for a short while.

It says a lot that straight people get bothered by them anyhow. Just because we aren't acting like an assimilated minority in the way society would like for a few short hours..

we live in a world where you're assumed straight unless you say you're gay so of course no one needs to come out as heterosexual

If all i had was around 5% of my chosen sex to bang I would be having parades etc just to identify them.

Does being in the Majority mean that much though? does it really matter much nowadays now that Minorities are widely accepted and are respected all the same as the majority and are close to having ( or have) the same rights as everyone else

Well yeah it kind of does. I mean sure we're not as overwhelmingly discriminated as we once were, but remnants of it remain throughout society. It's less visible than it used to be, but it's still there.

In the media for example LGBT people are something of an invisible minority usually winding up as that token character on a TV show. Or the fact that our rights can be so freely and flagrantly challenged by various groups throughout the media and government. They're both examples of that sort of oppressive atmosphere a heteronormative society can help to enforce.

We might be a minority sure, but being a minority only helps to normalise the discrimination we face. More visibility is the only thing that can really break that.
