I've read the first few ASOIAF books twice in the past year. To be fair, those are the sort of books that I think need a re-read, there's so much to take in. I won't be surprised if I need to do the same with the following books when I get to them.
I've also read a couple of the Harry Potters more than once. Basically, I'd read some of them years ago (before I was truly into reading as I am now) but not others (I think it was "Goblet of Fire" and "Deathly Hallows" that I'd already read) but I wanted to do a full read of them from beginning to end. I'll more than likely read them again eventually too. |
I'd be surprised if anyone was capable of truly gleaning all a book had to offer in just one reading of it (or films for that matter).
Even relatively simply plotted classics such as 'Treasure Island' or 'Oliver Twist' can not only re-satisfy if read again, but also yield often overlooked or unnoticed details too. I used to be such an avid reader - all types of fiction from cheap 'pulp fiction' American crime paperbacks to the classics, and non-fiction too (mainly biographies) - but not so much now as I've grown old and decrepit, though I still usually have two books on the go at the same time. I will always have a love of film because of my love of screenwriting, but books were my first love and I hate parting with any I have owned but sadly have had to. |
Yes, I often find things I missed/forgotten about when I read them again. I've read the Harry Potter series more times that I can remember.

I do I tend to read the book leave it a few months - year then go back and read it again :D
Kids books however I can't seem to escape the reread daily though :joker: (joys of being a mum) |
I usually donate novels once I've read them but I do keep the classics such as "To Kill a Mockingbird" and I will re-read those at some point. I sometimes read a book such as Harry Potter in English and some time later will read the same story in French. I have just re-read The Establishment again but books like that are like heavy going reference books that can be picked up again and again.
