I quite enjoy it. But nearly £6 for a sandwich does take the piss a bit

I will never forget when I went to get one for me gav and the kids one day a few years back and it came to about £30 (mind we got drinks too). Could have gone out for a proper meal for that much

Subway is usually around 8 dollars with the chips/crips and drink, here in the states.

Then again, our veggies are fresh.

a 6 inch sub and drink is usually filling with no sides needed and free refills, all for £3. far more value for money than mcdonalds

and they do a loyalty card

Jessica. 01-05-2014 10:21 PM

Subway is quite cheap. :umm2: They also do the €4 deal and €6 deal which is a 6inch or footlong sub with a drink.

Yeah the price stupid for what you get and I don't think it has ever filled me up. Although I only got fleeced the first time I went because I didn't really know the menu. The rest of the times I'd get that £3 meal. But it's just I've never had a decent sandwich in all the 5 or 6 times I've visited in my life. It's always luke warm, squashed and utterly depressing to look at.

Burger King is the most overpriced fast food shop

Just found out the the subway just up the road from the one I use is kosher only. Makes sense really as its in an area that is predominantly Jewish. Never been to that one so would never have known

Though I still think adding kosher options to the menu would be a better option than kosher only...

I agree. I can't imagine why they don't do this.

I notice the thing that Reece posted also mentions Jews... so on behalf of my own religion I want to say that it is one of our laws that we don't cause animals to suffer and Kosher slaughtering is as fast an painless as possible with more and more people using the stun method first. I can't pretend to know much about Halal slaughter... However... people inevitably complain about Kosher and Halal slaughtering while being perfectly happy to eat other more conventionally slaughtered meat without having any clear idea what atrocious places abattoirs are. How do you think non-Halal and Kosher meat is slaughtered? Do you think they sing them to sleep? What's more, all kinds of animals are abused and mistreated all over this country on a daily basis. I think their care and welfare would be a more suitable cause for concern.

Yes,abbattoirs are vile places,so much abuse occurs in them before the animals are even killed,I have thought about this and really believe maybe the throat cutting is in the end less painfull and stressful and probably quicker than the barbaric way abattoirs treat animals,I am so glad I don't eat meat when things like this are debated.

Nedusa 01-05-2014 10:50 PM

I find it hypocritical that people worry about how much pain different religions impart on animals prior to their slaughter. The fact is we all eat meat regardless of how the meat gets to the table. And we all accept the animals are going to be killed.

halal methods also emphasise treating animals kindly before they're slaughtered
so raise them healthily, prevent distress by not killing them in front of eachother etc

Samm 01-05-2014 10:52 PM

Why don't they just have a separate halal meat for Muslims

I eat at McDonald's more anyway

We have to treat them as well as possible surely, its good that halal raise them healthy and don't kill them in droves in front of one another,i don't even like the way they are transported in those bloody horrible trucks, its all horrible but I would goo the most humane and painless way

Niamh. 02-05-2014 09:09 AM

I don't really care if I'm served halal or Kosher food, the only thing that would bother me is taking Pork off the menu..........but then again I never eat in Subway so I don't really care anyway

Kizzy 02-05-2014 09:20 AM

How it's killed wasn't the issue initially was it, rather the removal of a choice?
I guess if the franchisee has agreed with subway too remove an item from sale due to religious sensibilities then that's up to them.
They lose your business if they don't sell what you like.

Oh right ok, well, ham/bacon/pork I would have thought are the most popular sandwich meats, seems like a silly choice to remove them completely from their menus rather than cater for both Muslim and non Muslim customers but I'm sure it must make financial sense for them to do it this way or they wouldn't be doing it, I agree

I'm not that up on Halal, but Kosher meat would be viewed as being contaminated if it was prepared with non-Kosher meat. I'm almost sure the same would apply to Halal meat. So it would have to be prepared and stored completely separately. I think the reason they don't offer a choice is that the cost of doing so would be prohibitive. Personally, I'm not that strict that it would bother me.

ahhh ok, that makes more sense then

It reminds me of the story of the checkout ops refusing to serve alcohol too, if the owner is devout he just may not want to handle/store pork products?
And I guess you wouldn't open a bbq shop in a vegan retreat would you? you have to cater for the community you serve.
