What on earth are you going on about? It's most likely to be a giant touchscreen on the wall of the living area, they even said this in that OK! Interview when they compared it with that movie. They may have tablets for shopping and that touchscreen for other things but that is it. Calm down and stop trying to kill the show.

As I said in another thread, the US version has done this for years and it's not relevant to the show at all. It's impact is nil. They are required to write a short blog about what's going on in the house and what they're thinking, a bit like a diary entry. That's not even outside contact. The producers MAY also give them generic pre-screened questions from the fans to answer.

This is a 15 minute job that happens once per week and has no impact on how the game unfolds. I agree that it's a terrible idea to let people leave the house or bring outsiders in to interact with them, but this social media chore is a non-issue in my mind. If you're still watching after all the more egregious breaches of the no-contact policy you're definitely not boycotting over this.

That all sounds alright.

I think the fear is they will be able to gain information from the outside which in my opinion is a massive NONO for BB, I suppose some may also be thinking right if we have ipads and social media interaction then what next?

But yeah I posted already in this thread I think, but it's not something I would boycott the show for.

Marsh. 27-05-2014 03:13 PM

I don't care if they are generic pre-screened questions or a blog, it's stupid to me.

The diary room is supposed to be their "diary" hence the name, not typing some crap up.

Why can't these generic questions just take the form of a diary room discussion like it always has done?

Big Brother asks them about the friendships/enemies they make in the house and how the relationships change anyway.

And it's hardly like they'll have access to twitter to see what the public think of them.

Give it 2 weeks. ;)

To be fair, it's not that at all.

They had iPads for the shopping last year but did they make a big song and dance about it? No, because there was no need to.

Whereas this year they're emphasising the use of technology for the housemates as well as social media and participation from viewers.

I don't agree it's worth boycotting but it's not as simple as you're making it.

Cal. 27-05-2014 03:18 PM

I doubt they'd give them the iPads to have private conversations with each other, its not exactly entertaining for us to watch them type things into an iPad (when we have no idea what it's about) with a blank expression.

Samm 27-05-2014 04:33 PM

Why are people making this bigger than it is

They won't be able to go on the internet, it will most likely be used to see the other HM VTs or more information about them

Marsh. 27-05-2014 04:40 PM

I don't think anyone's worried about them going on the internet, that's not the point.

The iPad's will be used to give them information, that's quite enough to make me wary.

If it leads to another Jackie/Callum situation I'll smash the TV.

and other thing is Emma was right about what she said in the article that the show has to evolve

For example look at IAC it hasn't changed since it started at look how boring it is now

I don't think anyone disagrees that the show has to evolve...the fact is though as soon as outside contact is fully incorporated into the show then it's no longer BB, you can't remove one of the most important concepts of the show...that's why people are making a big deal of it.

Having IPads doesn't mean out side contact

It makes me laugh because they had more Outside contact in BB1/BB2 with when a Housemate is evicted they opened the door and all of the house mates went outside

smudgie 27-05-2014 04:49 PM

They should be made to sign up to TIBB.
Now that would make for a fun show:dance:

I know that....but the social media thing could have meant outside contact and that's why people are getting worked up.

Yes, of course it does and it HAS EVOLVED. It's not stayed stagnant has it?

But when you remove one of the fundamental things about it then it ceases being BB altogether.

Just like if you took the celebs out of the jungle and gave them access to a luxury spa throughout the series it ceases being IAC.

They will most likely just show them some tweets about other HM, I don't think that's outside contact

Yes it is. It's giving them information from the outside world.

Dawn in BB7 didn't actually see or speak to anyone in the outside world but was ejected for gaining information from it via BB.

Josy 27-05-2014 04:58 PM

Showing them something from outside = outside contact
