let's be real, chris is incredibly insecure and wants to feel superior to Pav. he thinks he is fat and ugly (and he's not wrong). He's desperate to think that he is more popular and better looking than he actually is. he'd never treat Ash the way he is treating Pav, even if Ash behaved in exactly the same way.

Chris is the most intelligent housemate and probably longing for some decent intelligent conversation! BB have really stooped to a new low with all this creepy Chris and all the crap out of emma's mouth about pervy chris and **** like that about him..she put all that out there and then said it was in gest? He can't help what gets shown to us though. He probably doesn't go on about it all day, but he's trying to clear the air with people and since he thought Thursday night could've been his last night he was probably trying to make sure that everyone knew where he stood and he knew where everyone else stood.

Having intelligence and behaving intelligently don't always match up unfortunately.

I'm not sure of Chris's motives for entering a popularity contest but I don't doubt that he knew he'd have to work pretty hard one way or another to stand a chance. It seems to be working for some more than others, but as was quite rightly pointed out, he didn't go this week so it's obviously not all working against him.
