I would hope we all have a good fear of heights otherwise we are not long for this world.

Like a fear of fire or snakes to a degree.

An hour with a good therapist can overcome most irrational fears that we pick up from our parents

I really hate Snakes but I voted Heights..I just have to think about flying on a plane and I hate it

Niall 11-08-2014 11:10 AM

Confined spaces. But surely no phobia is worse because all phobias are entirely subjective. [sunglasses emoji]

Neither of my parents are afraid of spiders, I've no idea where it came from

Don't really like walking around at night in the dark either, but certain heights are just a nono.

Mine are Clowns, Spiders then Confined spaces.

Oh yeah... and my fear of the dark could be a fear of the unknown, we psyched ourselves out

Heights and confined spaces

I watched an urban legend programme about a boy who hid in a coffin and the door locked and he couldn't get out and ended being cremated by accident

Jake. 11-08-2014 12:26 PM

Being in confined spaces/heights.. Mainly because I don't like having no control

The fear you pick up from your parents (according to a study i read or heard about last week) comes from a subliminal fear that you pick up chemically when young - your parents may now have got over the fear or perhaps they, by protecting you from a spider transferred it. Fear of insects is also an evolutionary fear for children just as not liking green veg is (through avoiding being poisoned in an age before the modern) and i guess like green veg has to be unlearned.

Crimson Dynamo 11-08-2014 12:40 PM

again fear of confined spaces and dark is not so much a phobia as perfectly normal and part of you staying alive.

We all have a fear of death and its hardwired - its why our genes have survived and others have perished

..there is also another one..(which I think is true..)..where a guy kept a female hostage and he kept her in a coffin as well...

No they really aren't afraid of spiders, my dad used to pick them up all the time and my mom still won't let me kill a spider in her house, she says ah leave him alone he lives here :umm2:

..it could be anything..it could be something you saw on TV/a movie or anything with some little thing with a spider and it might have scared you but not too the point that it's a conscious memory of it...?..

..I think it's the more unusual ones that are interesting anyway because a lot of them can be 'rationed' but some phobias are more unusual and specific to individuals....
