..I'm with Niamh on this..I rarely send any paper cards anymore, just a few to elderly people in the village who don't have internet but mostly I send E-cards and greetings instead/more environmentally friendly..I did get loads from children at school, like Cherie but they now mostly send one collective card to all of their friends/staff which are displayed on a special card tree for everyone to read...and if they want to, they can make a small donation to a charity for children who are not as fortunate as themselves as to be able to have lovely things at Christmas ...this was all the children's own idea btw...

I still send them and receive them, but I have noticed that the numbers of both are decreasing.

It may be the cost. I used to always receive a hundred or more Valentines cards but that dwindled to just a couple because of the cost - I just couldn't afford to keep buying them, and addressing them to myself took too long quite frankly. :joker::dance::dance:

I always send cards, special ones for family and friends and then more normal ones for neighbours.

I also send them to long distance relatives and friends with a small note and photographs etc and they reply in the same way, I find it sad that it's a dying tradition tbqh.

So do I, it makes for part of Christmas to me, I recall when I first started writing my own cards and posting some and giving out others in person and how exciting it was to do so.

It may just be a bit of paper but I know I get great pleasure from receiving them, thinking that someone has 'wanted' to send me one and took the time to,so for me no contest.
I will always send cards myself.

I get a mix, some charity cards and others I particularly like especially for family, I really go overboard for my Mum and Dad's.

I actually find it quite sad when I visit anyone and they only have a few cards,it is nice to greet people and you cannot get to see everyone,a card as the ad used to say, can say so much.
So like you I am sad to see this dying away.

We were really discouraged from giving them at my secondary school because of it being harmful to the environment lol, suppose they could have just encouraged us to recycle them instead

Like yourself Josy, I always send cards and always will. It doesn't matter if I don't get cards from others, I just want them to know they are always in my thoughts, especially round this time of year, re family/loved ones who have moved too far to see that often. I also send special ones for family and the normal cards for neighbours, I haven't thought to do photos, but I usually upload photos to the computer and send those that way every so often. The task of writing the cards I abhor, but I do it because I love my family and friends and want them to know this.
