I disagree that this trend will slowly burn out and die. Because it erodes personal freedoms slowly and stealthily - it creeps forever forward. In 10 years time, things said now will be considered unthinkable.

I get annoyed when people find things offensive when said by one person that they say themselves (with a few exceptions). That's not going to make much sense but I know what I mean

It's called Ofcom.

the truth 18-01-2015 01:23 PM

the difference is before many things were culturally unacceptable, now theyre downright illegal...wed get offended and someone may be reported for saying nasty or cruel things....but nowadays they've outlawed it....if a kid called a disabled kid some sick name it gets reported to headmaster and he/she deals with the culprit and punishes the pupil. now its illegal and the victim can take action. same with most situations. I feel maybe weve become overly litigious , thanks to these endless new parliaments and the disastrous new labour project. too many laws in the end create too much corruption a two tier system when the rich can buy their way out of loopholes and assive erosion on freedom of speech. the tories bless them in the 1970s and 1980s were frankly smarter and knew their history, too many laws create too many new problems. leave the power in the hands of those in charge and allowsome degree of common sense , rational thinking and a mans consciounce

I know I sound like an old fart, but in the 50's my mum was a widow with 7 kids, no help from the state (unlike now) and we had to work bloody hard for every little thing. There was no time to be offended and even if we were, so what. It was like it or lump it. So I look around me now and regret that the values from those days and the very things that made us strong as a nation, are fast disappearing.
