The issue isn't with winning, the issue is that a reality TV/entertainment competition hands a record deal to the winner regardless of who they are; they're the most popular with the public, not the most marketable or talented or attractive or whatever else sells records, they're just who the public has voted for, for the sake of a television program. The X Factor makes its own bed anyway by giving these people sob stories and a platform to stand on, if they don't want dud winners then they need to stop putting through karaoke singers. It needs to either stop pretending it's trying to find the next big star or it needs to start actually trying to find the next big star.

Sam Bailey dropped by Syco.

She's one of only five X Factor winners to have a debut UK number one album and single, but Sam Bailey has been dropped by Syco Records.

Despite only winning the show 14 months ago, the singer will not have her contract renewed.

Sam confirmed the news on Twitter.

She reassured her fans, telling them not to worry about her because she's "happy" and has "lots of exciting things happening".

The singer is the third former X Factor act to leave Simon Cowell's label in the last 12 months.

In June last year, Leona Lewis left the label after seven years - having signed a deal with Island Record.

A week later, 2012 winner James Arthur announced he was no longer with the label having denied rumours he had been dropped.

Sam Bailey won in the tenth series of the competition in 2013 and went on to continue the talent show's tradition of claiming the Christmas number one with her debut single Skyscraper.

James Arthur thanked Syco for helping him make his 2013 self-titled debut album, which went to number two.

Four months later her debut album, The Power of Love, went straight the top of the UK chart.

The achievement makes her the only third female winner to see their debut single and album go to number one.

That's something only Alexndra Burke and Leona Lewis have done before.

Sam Bailey is currently at the tail-end of a UK tour and recently released her first autobiography.

Can't say I'm surprised tbh, why else would she resort to appearing on Bit on the Side?

It's funny, because second and third placed acts always do better than the winner. :joker:

I'm not surprised but oh well, her voice is still on point

Totally agree.

Its one of the reason why I cant stand the show and no longer tune in. Simon decides who's gonna be a star and not the poor saps spending their money voting. That seems the opposite of how it should be IMO. The whole show is a huge fraud . Simon makes money from the show then makes even more money from which ever act he decides to throw his money at while you people at home have very little say in the matter.

I think if there is a market for Susan Boyle then there must be market for Sam Bailey but Simon has decided other wise. I'm actually quite surprised that the show is still so popular and the public are still so gullible.

Same here, I gave up on it a couple of years back
