I also don't see where the 600 figure comes from, however even if it was just one, its one too many. The most shocking part of this for me is the coverups tbh, though I don't know why I am shocked by things like that anymore, seems to be becoming more and more common these days. RIP to these poor little souls and mothers who also received substandard care which is simply unacceptable/ Not checking the temperature of a newborn is unforgivable really...even non medically trained people know its really important to monitor stuff like that. I was so lucky in the NHS maternity unit that I went to, the staff were bloody amazing. My daughter had to go on a heat mat for an hour or two and they checked her every 5 mins and updated me each time.
Unfortunately from reading the OP, this comes across as NHS bashing rather than genuine concern for whats happened here...I came to that conclusion because of the unnecessary addition about the private sector. I will no doubt be told I am wrong and sick or whatever, but thats how it reads :(
