i think if peopel dont like it then dont look at it

but some people who like and want to look back on there TiBB Journey i say it should stay

Siouxsie 02-01-2007 12:46 AM

not bothered take it or leave it

Ella 02-01-2007 01:15 AM

Nooo you can't get rid of post counts, It's nice to see how many people have made and why should they be removed? People have worked hard to get as many as they have, so I think they should stay.

Mark 02-01-2007 01:17 AM

Yep, I don't see any real reason to remove them. It's interesting to see what people think about them though :cat:

Yeah it is good to see people veiws on things

sol 02-01-2007 09:09 PM

I think it should stay, I don't see how removing it will have any major benefits to the forum.

Rory 02-01-2007 11:39 PM

Removing it will stop people from replying randomly to threads saying
"lol"
"ya"
"lmao"
"haha"

or any other un-unique posts. It will also help save some bandwidth and space.

Haha.

Just kidding with you. Wait, no I'm not. This isn't a unique post, ah my gads!
(Sorry, I'm hyper)

I have nothing against the post count personally, now that the C&G section has been changed it should help with the spamming a bit because there was the odd few people just making topics/posts just to get there post count up, at least when your posting in the BB sections or other TV sections your chatting about something in particular and most of the time have something interesting to say, overall much better now IMO.

Diablo 05-01-2007 11:05 PM

I'm registered on 3 other forums and none of these forums have visible post counts and there are no "pointless" thread like counting or the alphabet etc etc...

Just proper topics for discussion

If it was up to me, i'd remove it altogether.

lily. 05-01-2007 11:06 PM

At last.. the Lamborghini girl... the voice of reason... :hello:

Diablo 05-01-2007 11:09 PM

why, thank you! :flowers:

as long as it doesnt make an upstart for saying that! LOL

Nowhere 05-01-2007 11:17 PM

Yeah I wouldn't mind if the post count was removed, although I don't have a major problem with it. I'm registered with a few other forums, but i tend to spend more time here, I think it's the atmosphere that makes this forum what it is, and the chilled moderators etc.

Overall I don't think removing the post count will harm the forum in any way, so I'm for it!

lily. 05-01-2007 11:35 PM

And, another upstart on board..:bigsmile:

Lauren 06-01-2007 03:46 AM

I'm on a board where post count isn't visible and it does no difference to amount of "pointless" posts.

Tanser_Man 06-01-2007 12:53 PM

Well since Chat and Games got stopped, the problem has only been moved elsewhere. Rather then it dying with C&G, it's moved into other areas of the forum, a point i made last night.

I don't understand why people need a post count, if you want to "map your journey" as someone put it then i don't see how a post count draws that map for you. I mean theres people that joined say 5 months ago, and there persistantly spamming to get a certain amount of posts... why?

Is it a race to become the best poster?
Do you get recognition from being the biggest poster?

I thought this forum was about quality posts, not half hearted dribble that nobody can understand. I find it more and more annoying seeing "nothing" posts that i can also see as a 'spam' post.

Whenever i raise this issue, it gets rubbished. I'm not saying i want it all gone and people to do a four page essay on the current affairs in the BB house, but just a little effort! That compensates for dribble! I would much rather read a line of text then a word that tells you absolutely nothing.

You say use the ignore button but that stops you from seeing the 20% of relevant posts these people make, so it isn't really an option it just takes away the debate your looking for.

I think taking the post count away would bring back the proper posts and debate we 'used' to have on here.

Chrizzle 06-01-2007 12:57 PM

But was is a 'pointless post'

A pointless post to one, might be a good post to another..

So your saying posts like this;

Quote:

 yes
and this;

Quote:

I agree
isn't pointless...

I mean how the hell can you debate of twenty message of yes and no? Your telling me a smilie best describes why Donny is an idiot?

If you set up a thread you want people to express there views, not give you nothing! Can you honestly tell me that's the responce you want from the forum?

Theres relevent posts and then theres spam, how you can keep a blind eye from this i do not know.... and that isn't a personal attack on you.

As i said i'm not bothered about the odd one but you see these posts time and time again from certain members and its really pathetic.

Red Moon 06-01-2007 01:31 PM

One thing I saw at another board years ago was that people put the letters ST, or the maybe it was the word Serious, in thread titles they didn't want people to post one liners to.

Could that work here?

Tanser_Man 06-01-2007 01:37 PM

I would love that to work here... but it's then telling everyone about it!

Maybe..

I think its worth a try. Maybe give it a weeks trial, and see if it works.

Red Moon 06-01-2007 01:41 PM

Well lets see if a few more people think it's worth a try and if they do we can see what can be done about making some form of announcement.

It might be the compromise that we are looking for but we need more people on board for it to work. If we don't have them on our side then they will to make a mess of the serious posts.

lily. 06-01-2007 02:20 PM

Red, I like your suggestion.

I do agree with Tanser about this issue being swept under the carpet. I figured it was because the people who object to the spamming are in the minority, and therefore the admin didn't see the point in changing things to suit a small number of people.

However, it is nice that you have made a suggestion and are willing to work at a compromise.

I admit I don't always handle these complaints in the best way. Ranting and raving doesn't solve anything, nor does stooping to the level of the inane posters by spamming other threads. Yes, I know, I can be immature and troublesome when I have a point to make and, in the clear light of day, I usually regret doing it. Nobody will take our point seriously if we do that.

It's frustration that leads me to do that for the most part. I enjoy coming here, obviously. I spend more time on this board than any other one I'm a member of. I don't think I'm entirely intolerant to others. I tolerate semi-illiterate posts and a certain amount of "smiley only" posts. But, sometimes enough is enough, and it gets to the point where my head is about to explode! I think the response to my spamoblie last night pretty much sums up how it makes me feel. Other people were getting really annoyed with the spam I was posting while they were trying to have a serious discussion. That was what I was trying to illustrate!

Anyway, when a forum annoys someone to this extent, then it's probably time to just take a break. But instead, I chose to make a stand.. twice.. with the hope that someone else felt the same and that something would change. There are a few people who have admitted to feeling the same. Maybe there are others who haven't spoken out.

I understand that these things don't change overnight, and that the admin can only do so much about the pointlessness being posted, especially during the BB shows when the board is so busy and there are other issues to address.

I'm not getting into CBB this year at all, so I may just visit here less while it's on and that way avoid going off on one of my trademark rants!!! ... Then I can return chilled in February..

However, again, like I say, it's good that you are considering some options to alleviate the problem. Obviously it's not just me who feels this way, and it might be an idea to create a poll to get an idea of how many members prefer serious discussion, and how many don't mind.

Now, whatever happened to that New Year resolution I made to be more tolerant and less troublesome? It didn't last long did it?

Lauren 06-01-2007 03:07 PM

You're saying that post count encouraged dribble to be posted. But everyone can see the post count and it's usually only repeat offenders that post pointlessly. I don't think it's the post count causing the problems, but moreso the people themselves. If it was post count - we'd all be doing it, and we're not.
