That was 40 years ago and there are still a minority of people daft enough to believe these same lines when they are spewed out now. It would be funny if it wasnt so dangerous and stupid.

You can watch it here. The similarity between UKIP and these bigots is uncanny at least most of the people that think like this are old and wont be around much longer its the young ones that are stupid and think like this that are more of a worry.

:joker::joker::joker:

There are serious documentaries, and then there are those such as this highly contrived, 'mockumentary' - scripted, directed and produced to give an artificial biased view under the guise of social realism. Bloomfield - who was still in film school when he made this film - admits that he set out to make a "satirical account of middle class values", from "a sense of mischief" after he interviewed eccentric MP Ronald Bell who "espoused his belief in the greatness of the British Empire."

Bloomfield also admits that his 'mockumentary' developed in; "an ‘anarchic’ way" so as to include members of the local community who in some way similarly espoused Bell’s nationalistic ideology and interviews with Earl Howe, Mr. Fantham (the patently looney Tory carpenter) and the pupils of Oakdene School, were also added.

This deliberate 'interplay' between seriousness and mockery is entertaining, but hardly conducive to the creation of a documentary which realistically reflects 'social' attitudes with anything approaching balance and honesty - even in a specific group or class of society.

The 1960's saw a 'sea change' in traditional social and political attitudes and was one of the most radical decades in history. That radicalism continued well into the 1970's - especially among students - with the economic slump caused by the 1973 oil crisis pivotal.

It is notable then, that 1973 is the very year that Bloomfield made this mockumentary, so where are all the 60's spawned radical 'prototype' members of society? Instead we have a narrow group of deliberately sought out and assembled 'cardboard' buffoon stereotypes.

There is No doubt that SOME archaic 'Colonel 'Blimps' still exist in a tiny minority within the modern British Army, but to deliberately seek them out, assemble them and record them in a mockumentary which is solely designed to persuade that 'pompous stupidity' is UNIQUE to this class of officer ALONE is misleading, because the most sane and ordinary of officers can, and do, also possess 'Blimp' attitudes.

So if the purpose of Bloomfield's mockumentary was to expose the thinly veiled racism, Nationalism, and myopic anti-immigrant attitudes of the British Middle-Classses, then at least show us the SANE and HIGHLY INTELLIGENT middle class bigots who held such attitudes and NOT just the crank element.

This is why this contrived film fails miserably as a 'like' comparitor for today's UKIP party, because today's modern UKIP party (and its supporters) DO NOT merely consist of the said 'cardboard' crank/buffoon element of racist, Nationalistic, and myopic anti-immigrant bigots - some of US are SANE and INTELLIGENT racist, Nationalistic, and myopic anti-immigrant bigots. :joker::joker::dance::dance::dance:

You could by the same token then add all the recent 'poverty porn' such as benefits street, skint, Nick and Margrets 'we all pay your benefits', life on the dole, on benefits and proud... These 'mockumentaries' have an agenda too, the subjects on these programmes are too stigmatised, victimised and objectified are they not?
And yet there is seemingly no end of support for the suggestion that if you'r on welfare you're the scourge of society, a drain on resources and a parasite on the arse of the strivers.
Is that not our new sociological landscape? What was our legacy from the 80s?...There is no such thing as society, and that is becoming more and more evident.

Oh if only UKIP consisted of 'common' folk like wot the Labour Party does:

WELCOME TO CHAV & NOT DAVE'S MOCKNEY SING ALONG

The annual pre-Election Knees Up and Sing Along featuring Chav & Not Dave and all the lovable middle-class, privately educated mockney's in their Shadow Cabinet. You're guaranteed a good time as all these wealthy economists and barristers belt out all the old favourites from 'The Red Flag' and 'The Internationale' to 'Solidarity Forever' and modern hits such as 'Where Have All The British Gone' (Long Time Passing) and 'Grandma, What was a Church and a Union JacK? (Why Won't Our Ayatollah Let Us Have Them Back?)

On The Piano: CHAV himself Old Ed Milliband.

Working Class geezer Chav was educated at Haverstock Comprehensive - which was an elitist school, "attended by many scions of the north London liberal elite" - and Corpus Christi College Oxford. He was "born into 'Labour aristocracy' being the son of a 'Marxist historian' and has lived in the swanky SW1 area of London all his life .

On The other piano: 'NOT DAVE' - better known as Harriet Harman.

Deputy Leader and Shadow Secretary of State for International Development, you'll love this mockney gal as she tinkles with the ivories instead of the truth. Old Harriet was educated St Paul's private school, and York University, and her father was a Harley Street surgeon, and her uncle the Earl of Longford.

A genuine Mockney lass if NEVER there was one.

On The Drums: RED ED BALLS himself.

Shadow Chancellor of the Exchequer, Ed was educated at Nottingham High PRIVATE SCHOOL, Oxford University, and Harvard, in the USA. Old Red Ed's daddy is a Zoology Professor, and we wouldn't expect 'noffink else' as an occupation for this true socialist non-Establishment mockney geezer.

On the Banjo: CHUKA UMUNNA MP better known in pop circles as 'Chuka Kahn't'

Shadow Secretary of State for Business, Innovation and Skills, this 'darn to earf geezer' was PRIVATELY educated at St. Dunstan's College in Catford and the University of Manchester and University of Burgundy in Dijon in France.

Come Along One And All To The 'HACKNEYED EMPIRE' where you can do the LAMBETH WALK, THE KNEES UP MOTHER BROWN and SING-ALONGA with CHAV & NOT DAVE your FAVOURITE MOCKNEY GEEZERS .

Inspired by an article/Letter by 'John' in 'Political Thoughts' Magazine.
